So well most of you may have only seen me poke around in the artwork areas... occasionally. Well.... Im really starting to think about maybe bringing a adoptable to Secundi. I like the community I have seen so far. :)
Though I am still a little... scared.... to try to jump into the adoptable world here.
I dont want to bring something here that just... well wont get the deserved attention it deserves. (When I say this I mean if the Secundi People cant find interest in the adoptable I wouldnt want that, Id rather find something more appealing to Secundi).

So... I have a few questions for everyone I also decided to include a little note about how I see things when it comes to adoptables, so people can get to know me, and well if people agree or disagree with my views. :) (Please dont be afraid to comment on my little blurbs!)

How does the adoptable world work here? (ie: do adpt runners sell things, give things away?)
On PI adoptable owners/runners typically run flatsales, and auctions. They also include fun games through the threads. Is it the same here?

What kind of expectations do you have as a buyer?
I personally look for quality. If the art is amazing and the coloring is well... yuck... well It turns me away. I also look for fun games and variety.

What kinds of creatures do you typically go towards?
Personally I dont lean towards any certain type of creature, whether it be realistic or cartoon based. As long as the lines are a decent quality and fun.

How do you feel about Birds? (ie: All types of birds... mostly real birds)

How would you recommend a new user start up a Adoptable here on Secundi?
ANY tips would be GREATLY appreciated!

Thats all I can think of currently. Please feel free to post or PM me. <3

Thanks so much guys!

Hiya Calico!

Well, everyone here has slightly different ways of running thier adopts but Here we go..

QuoteHow does the adoptable world work here? (ie: do adpt runners sell things, give things away?)

Most people work on a bit of both tbh.  Charges arent often high (imo) for flatsales etc (often ranging from just a few K SG to 100K SG mostly) But people do have freebie events too, things like rolling the dice events which are pretty popular here atm.  There are also some USD sales that take place with some of the adopts but not everyone has them.

QuoteWhat kind of expectations do you have as a buyer?

Personally I like to see good quality art with a nice colour job for the actual adopt itself but I also like to see consistancy from the event runner.

QuoteWhat kinds of creatures do you typically go towards?

Im not hugely biased towards one creature in particular but I do personally feel like we have a fair few Horse and Wolf/Dog based adopts already, which if you did, would then have to fight more for popularity perhaps?

QuoteHow do you feel about Birds? (ie: All types of birds... mostly real birds)

Eh.. not too sure how to answer this one.. I dont mind birds but they wouldnt necessarily be top of my list

QuoteHow would you recommend a new user start up a Adoptable here on Secundi?

I would say small and slowly and build up.  We are a smaller community base here so threads can be slower than on PI. Building up slowly can allow you to build trust with the other users, which will in turn, encourage more support and interaction :)

Im sure you will do great if you decide to try an open a adoptable shop here, any questions, feel free to ask either in pm or here.

Calico Cougra

Thanks so much for the answers/tips Kitten. :)

And if it helps, by Birds Im specifically leaning towards Birds of prey atm. I have a very HQ set in the works at the moment of some Harpie Eagles. which I would love to eventually add onto, and possibly turn into a HUGE bird/avian based adoptable.
I just dont want to bring something over here if the people of Secundi wont really find much interest in them. Id rather wait and bring over some other possible lines.

X3 The artist is Star Rice on PI. She has such talent with bird art. Id love to be able to bring them here.

Winged

Hi Calico! I've noticed you around the art forums, and am interested by the idea of HQ bird of prey lines!
A bird adopt would be something that i would be very picky about the lines though, i feel they could quite easily be a style i don't like. But if they're HQ and realistic then i expect i would like them.

How does the adoptable world work here? (ie: do adpt runners sell things, give things away?)
A variety of different events, with paid and free events both being equally common i'd say. Adopts generally don't sell for huge amounts of SG. Fun events are popular too.

What kind of expectations do you have as a buyer?
I like quality best, then affordability next. I don't like an adopt where it is really difficult to get one, particularly to start with. But of course there's a fine line between the adoptable becoming too common, or being impossible for most people to get. I also generally don't like USD events before the adoptable has established itself; not necessary as  an agency just have several events.

What kinds of creatures do you typically go towards?
I like most creatures,  i'm typically not a huge fan of human based adoptables but there are exceptions to that. I much prefer realistic HQ adoptables to cartoon style ones.

How do you feel about Birds? (ie: All types of birds... mostly real birds)
I'd definately look at them, like i said at the top certain styles of drawing birds might put me off but i expect i would be interested.

How would you recommend a new user start up a Adoptable here on Secundi?
I'd recommend to start small without complicating things. Make it easy for everyone to get their first one or two. Also for me personally the amount of time i have to spend on the internet can vary from having most of the day to only looking things up on my phone once or twice in a day, to no access at all depending on if i'm working or at college. One pet peve i do have is people starting breeding seasons when not a lot of people have a pair they would like to breed, so i'd say to leave that off for a while till the adopt is established.
I also really like custom events, i love to hoard mimics of my various characters.
I'd agree with BKC that it's good for you to build up trust with other users here as we are a small community.

I'd love to see some examples of the art you're looking to bring over!

toffeeca

Hi there!

I think I am mostly going to echo BKC and Winged here, but I do have a few things that may be different

How does the adoptable world work here? (ie: do adpt runners sell things, give things away?)
I honestly think we have more giveaways than selling on Secundi. When an adoptable never gives things away I think it turns a lot of people off, just because it looks like the adoptable owner is there for nothing but profit. Most adoptables have a flat sale of sorts that likely costs SG, but it is usually around 10k. When there are auctions, from what I have seen, they are normally 1 SG auctions, where the prices starts at 1SG and increases by 1 with each bidder. There is very little on the site that I have seen for USD. There are some adoptables, like Quin, who regularly do things for USD (there are bribes every other month where you can offer USD or other things as well as tickets to claim more foals on the alternating months) however, in every case of USD it is not something that you have to do to get pets (for quin every other month is a breeding season where over 100 foals are given away for free). The other adoptable that regularly has things for USD is Elenaria, and they aren't as active as quin, however the three runners, particularly sera who is having a USD event right now and the other two are busy with RL, are extremely active on the site in general and have a lot of friends. They also do things that do not require any payment more often than things that do. Particularly with USD if there is a lot of USD stuff and not much free/non-USD stuff, it seems like people get turned off of the adoptable. I don't see people having adoptables as a way to make money on Secundi. Most adoptable runners do try and trade for other pets that they want though.

What kind of expectations do you have as a buyer?
I think that the quality of the artwork and coloring should match and both be decent quality, but I think equally as important is that the adoptable runner is something that I think is fair and someone who I want to spend time around, particularly if the events are more than just dice rolling events (which are extremely popular)

What kinds of creatures do you typically go towards?
I don't really have a preference. I don't like anything that is scary/gory, but I like realistic and cartoon both as long as they are well done.

How do you feel about Birds? (ie: All types of birds... mostly real birds)
I would be open to birds, and as you can see from other threads in the Help Booths, people want variety and from what I know we don't have any active bird adoptables.

How would you recommend a new user start up a Adoptable here on Secundi?
I honestly think you should start by participating in other adoptables. You came to Secundi to fight about Whimsy stuff and since then it seems like you only try and buy artwork and sell for USD on Secundi. I don't know if I would be interested in following an adoptable that was started by someone that I don't know at all. Additionally, if I am being completely honest, when you say that you don't want to bring any adoptable here that wont get the attention it deserves, it really turns me off. We are a very small community, there are likely to be people who dont follow for whatever reason and the artwork doesn't make something inherently worthy of everyone following it. I apologize if I am being too blunt, however I really think that participating before starting up your own adoptable is the way to go.

SkySong

I think BKC, Winged, and toffeca pretty much covered the big stuff.

As a buyer I'm looking for quality, as well as something possible to get. If the events take time and effort to enter (Writing, be it poems or something else, something that requires me to do more than make a quick post) they are more likely to be ignored or forgotten. I know there are several that I meant to enter, but forgot about because when I looked through the events I entered the smaller, quicker ones, and got distracted before I entered the larger, more time-consuming ones. If the adopt is popular, I occasionally step back since everyone always racing to get one puts me off when events end before I get the chance to enter.

The only creatures I typically avoid are the ones with eyes that take up half the face. Also if the style of part of the template doesn't match the style of another, I'm less likely to participate. I love birds, and look forward to seeing the set you are getting.

Finally, I have to stress the point toff made. I haven't really seen you entering any events, and all posts you've made except the three you have here are in the Art Gallery and Art Booths. This makes me slightly suspicious and even if you ran an HQ adopt I'd be cautious about putting any time into it. For me to follow any new user, I want to see some sort of post somewhere that isn't related to those two forums. Posting in the Town Square just introducing yourself works, or showing interest in one adopt or another also works. Then I want to see them run events that aren't obviously overwhelming them to the point where they stop working. No one wants to follow an adopt that lasts two weeks and has only one event.

A great deal of the currency here really is other adoptables, so if you aren't involved with other things I think people will have a hard time getting involved with you, if that makes sense.

Calico Cougra

I truly appreciate everyones responses.

I do want to make clear though. Whimsy and I cleared things up. I apologized for the way things got heated... and clearly out of hand in the thread. I wouldn't say WHimsy and I are friends but I do consider her someone I could have a fun conversation with and possibly become friends with later on. :)

I know Im generally seen in the art area... but that is because art is a HUGE part of my life. I specifically set up that Watch.Me thread to hopefully get people to step forward and get to know me as both a person and a artist. I fell my beginning posts here on Secundi may have killed any reputation I could have had here. I DO plan to change that one day. I want to make secundi like a second home, and become friends with the small community that is here.

Anyways back to the adoptable related stuff. ;)
On PI, we have a 3 week "introduction" period, where the runner runs strictly free events. I Love the idea of this, 1) because it helps get a nice fan base. 2) It helps getting used to the way things work with adoptables and working with the specific lines.
I personally would probably take a route like that, do a few events that were strictly free and fun. I like story based events, Pick a Doors, Raffles, guessing games... I like to get people involved with the adoptables I run. I enjoy being apart of something that can make someone smile and have fun.

Rosedawn

That's good to hear. I don't think you've ruined your reputation. Its just easiest to garner interest when you show interest first. Invest in our community and the community will invest in you.

I will vouch for star rice, she does magnificent birds. I collect owl cats from her and adore everyone of them.

Example of an owl cat just to show off her style.

SkySong

I'm more of a believing is seeing, but I look forward to seeing you around more often! And your birds. Can't wait to see your birds! (PS, if you are doing the join.me again soon, I'll see if I can pop in. I usually do, but lately between getting through the ST stuff I'm doing and homework I've been feeling a bit quiet.)

And believe it or not the birds are actually higher quality then the Owl Cats. I wish she still ran them. I stalked owlcats like crazy when they were originally around. :3

Thanks for hearing me out, and Id love to see you poke in even if its just to say hi Sky.

And here is a example of one of the bird sketches. I havent heard anything from her, but seeing its spring break shes probably busy. XD Also please excuse my terrible watermark. XD

Calico Cougra

So how do these Dice Games work?
Cali did ATTEMPT to jump into a currently running event... but I have NO IDEA what Im doing. :o

PonyMama

you can see what other people are rolling

so first off you have the number of dice to roll

1,2,3,4,5,6,7, and so on
then you show you are rolling a dice by putting d
so 1d

then you decide how many sides the dice has/have
we normally stay under 100, but you decide

so 1d50
then you stick it between a tag that says roll, kind of like you would with url or img

when you post the dice will roll giving you a number
you do not want to end a post with a roll for you entering a game as it tampers with the dice

with already running games you see what dice they want you to roll and go for it

Calico Cougra

So I basically post [roll]*1d50[/roll*] (minus the *)?

Huh. Pretty neat. Thanks for clearing that up for me PM! :)
