Miniwyvs - A Merry Adventure
Choose-Your-Own Game

You find yourself outside a tavern. It resembles many others, so even if you haven't been here before, it seems familiar. The place sits at a crossroads, and a sign on the door says, "Adventurer's Wanted".

Inside, an old man sits smoking a pipe. A miniwyv is curled around his neck, dozing. You approach, as the place is empty except for him, likely since it's only around noon.

"Ah, a young, strong soul! Care to go out on a mission? There's some newly discovered realms that need mapping out."

The man explains what this entails, and it sounds pretty straightforward. You go out, crossing through a portal, and explore. A little fairy comes with you, somehow mapping out the area you travel through. The fairy also magically transports other travelers to you, or, if you're a latecomer to the tavern, transports you to the already-out adventurers. Any loot you find, you get to keep.

"So, whaddya say? Care to go?"

Information
1. No signs ups! Participate when you want, however much you want. Jump in late. Whatever works for you!

2. Do not make more than one (1) decision in a row. In other words, if you post, let someone else make the next decision post. (Similar to how Discord Frakens are often done-- one between.)

3. There will be different scenarios, options, tasks, etc. Some are very simple, some are a bit harder. Some require effort, some rely on random chance. If you aren't interested in the current task, check back after a few posts-- maybe you'd like to contribute to a different one further along.

4. Prizes will be awarded or found, sometimes based on merit, sometimes randomly.
Certain games & tasks will reward those who actively contribute. Certain tasks will reward only one person.  Rest assured that there are plenty of prizes and opportunities, so don't feel put out if you don't snag something right away.
Prizes will also be awarded at the end of things to those to participated particularly excellently.

Fairy Information
The little fairy accompanying you has a few tasks and abilities.

1. Mapping the area-- this doesn't concern you much; mostly she's just reporting back.

2. Transporting new adventurers to the current location (so that anyone can jump in at any time!)

3. Transporting the group out of harm. You might run into danger! If the fairy thinks you're all about to get killed or maimed, she'll poof you back to the starting tavern. You'll have to restart your adventure. (And can choose different options, or go back to where you'd been.) You will keep your inventory and prizes.

4. Keeping track of any inventory you might pick up along the way.

General Plot Posts will be made in PURPLE.
Decision Requests will be made in RED.
Games will appear in GREEN.
Inventory will be listed in BLUE.

Let's begin, shall we?

There are a few different areas that need to be explored and mapped out. The old man gives you the run-down.

The Coast
"The coastline runs along the eastern edge of the land. Rumor has it that a port lies somewhere. You might run into people."

The Volcano
"This huge mountain is  known to be volcanic, parts of it might be active. We're not really sure. It's a mix of growth and destruction. Watch out for lava!"

Desert Wastelands
"Lots of sand here. Some taller structures off in the distance, maybe, unless they are mirages. Could there be more than meets the eye? Hard to say."

Feral Gardens
"It's a sea of flowers, as dangerous as it is beautiful. It was rumored to have once been kept by elves, but now it's overgrown and unpredictable, and home to who-knows-what."

"Oh, and, of course, there have been Miniwyvs spotted everywhere, if you're interested in those."

Someone, please choose a location to explore!

YourLoveOnly

I love nature and forest-like areas, so I will pick Feral Gardens

Miniwyvs

You go on your way! You (and any nearby companions) step through the portal to the Feral Gardens.

Before you, an abundance of greenery is shot through with bursts of colors. There are blossoms peeking through vines, and topiary that probably were shaped like something, but which are now utterly overgrown. You seem to have come out of the portal on a garden path, ruined cobblestones bumpy underfoot. The path runs north and south.

You have some choices to make, it would seem.

Do you go north or south?

Someone, please choose a direction, and also roll 1d3 to determine how keen your eyes are!

(Last decision made by YLO- please wait to make another!)

Midnight Phantom

Hm I choose North

Your group starts heading north. At one time, the gardens must have been absolutely magnificent and well-tended, and you can see that to either side was once lawn. The grass is knee-high now, in some places, and weeds have cropped up, though some are lovely in their own ways. Beyond the grass are patches of garden and the hardier flowers have taken over these areas. Roses stretch, showing off thorns, and blooms burst with colors in manic, wild displays. Beyond the flowerbeds, arborvitae block the view of whatever else the gardens hold.

You appear to be on the main path that once led through the area. It was clearly cobblestone, but has not aged well, and weedy grass pokes up between the stones.

Your group, small as it is yet, peers around... and there! Another path, this one once having been gravel, is apparent a little distance away, through the weeds.

Do you stay on the main path, to see where it leads, or try to get through the weeds to the gravel path?

(As a side note, you can benefit from your group's decisions even if you aren't actively around, as long as you've participated in the past!)

Ember

I follow after the merry little company, giddy with excitement. I am not one for sticking on the beaten course however and once presented with an interesting alternative I eagerly point it out to the group and begin trying to pick my way through the weeds.

Miniwyvs

The group manages to get to gravel path, with only a few cuts and thorn-sticks and bug bites acquired in the process. It's a narrow little path, and it winds behind one of the overgrown flowerbeds and between two of the arborvitae shrubs that screen this section of garden from the rest.

Though the evergreens are thick and untrimmed, the adventurers managed to squeeze between the branches, batting rogue greenery out of the way. On the other side, a new sight greets everyone.

This area is less overgrown... somehow. It's not quite tidy and manicured, but it looks slightly less like a jungle than the previous area. It also reeks of magic.

This is what you see:

What do you do? You can move on down the gravel path, or investigate the scenery.

Kahlira

"OOO! Lookit! Them lily pads! Aren't they pretty?" Kah giggles as she joins the group. "Oooo! Wouldn't you just love to run your fingers through them? Maybe take a nice calm dip!"

Kah plunks herself down and wants to investigate the scenery!

((Such a pretty pic!))

Saturnalia

The group moves in closer to the pond. There are a lot of different things to look at! What should you investigate?

(You can choose anything you see in the picture, though some of it might not be too exciting!)

Midnight Phantom

Hm, I move to investigate the blueish grey rock or maybe metal piece that is just beyond the bench.

Miniwyvs

The object behind the bench proves itself to be a little memorial stone, which glows with its own faint light. Carved into it is the following message:

"For Zirah, who knew all of the flowers by name... a skill worth having."

What else would you like to investigate? (Or you can move on.)

Ember

While the others poke and prod at things I decide to investigate the potted plants. Did someone plant them? Is there someone watching over them? They seem odd, either way.

Saturnalia

Ember investigates the plants. There are four of them, all lined up-- a bigger one, and three little ones. The largest seems to be a weedy geranium, nothing of interest. The other three are smaller, shrubbier, with little blue flowers. It is a bit strange; they seem tended, though not particularly well cared for.

From the small pot in the middle, something glints. Upon closer inspection, Ember finds that it is a brass key, with a little acorn design at the top. Better hold onto that!

The trees appear to be slightly less overgrown than the plants in that first area of the garden. They aren't quite... manicured, but they seem to have been occasionally trimmed back from the little clearing around the pond.

Aside from that, though, you find nothing of interest amidst their branches.

Key in hand and ever more curious about the area we have stumbled into, my eyes fall upon the glaringly obvious pond and I make a thoughtful noise. "In for a penny, in for a pound I guess," I say to no one in particular before wandering over and sticking my head into the pond to see what might be lurking in the water.

Miniwyvs

Ember soon finds that the water is dark and murky, making it quite hard to see what lies under the surface. It's a nice temperature, though at least.

Wait! Was that a flash of movement? Why, yes! It was! Something darts towards a lily pad. The little creature clamors up onto the big leaf, and then hops to the slate next to the pond.

"Ribbit," it says. Mind you, it does not make the sound that a frog makes. It literally just... says the word "ribbit".

Well then.

Phantom watches Ember and wonder how her hair will come out when a flash I find movement caught eye. "Ribbit? ....Hello. Can you say something else?" She asked since they were supposedly in a magical area, and the frog really didn't not sound like a frog no harm in trying.

Miniwyvs

The frog stares at Midnight Phantom for a moment, and then sighs. It's a strange sound coming from a frog.

"Why on earth would a frog say anything besides 'ribbit'?" he asks. "I mean, it's the only thing I'm supposed to say, really." He sounds quite petulant. "But I suppose I could say other things." He pauses dramatically.

"Meow."

He waggles his... eye ridges? He doesn't have eyebrows. It's hard to tell. "How's that?"

I jump back from the water at the flash and my shirt is immediately soaked. I brush the hair out of my eyes and stare at the frog who...apparently talks. I glance at Midnight and smother a laugh. "I don't think that's...exactly what Midnight had in mind. Do you have a name? Is this your...garden...place?"

Miniwyvs

The frog blinks his big eyes, and contemplates the question. "I'm called a lot of things. 'Pain-In-The-Rump', 'Good-for-Nothing', 'Unreliable Scoundrel'... but I usually just go by Romeo."

The frog... winks.

"As for this place..." He looks around, and if a frog could shrug, he would have done so. "It's a place. It's not really mine. I just come here to meet the ladies. Not that a lot of ladies come here anymore." He huffs out another sigh. "In fact, you're the first people I've seen here in years, for the most part."

"But that was exactly what I had in mind! " she chuckled even if she was slightly surprised that they were now in the mist of having a conversation with a frog and a very charismatic one at that.

"If those are your other names you seem to fit the name Romeo quite well. Were the other ladies you came to visit of your species or another? And this garden...do you know why it has been abandoned?" She asked curiously, moving to stand by Ember while playfully making a bad smell motion at her.

Miniwyvs

"Species..." he murmurs, and then sticks out one of his frog legs, contemplates it for a moment, and then returns it to underneath him. "Oh, no. Certainly not. This is just the form that tends to facilitate the process of meetin' ladies. I'm not actually a frog."

He looks around. "As for the garden... times changed, I suppose. I'm not entirely sure, to be honest. The magic in these parts works strangely, there were just fewer and fewer people, fewer and fewer parties and fancy teatimes and games of croquet... and then there were none."

He looks concerned for a moment. "I guess I've sort of... lost track of the time over the years..."

(( Aww, this is the cutest little story! I loved reading the whole thing! ^.^ ))

I couldn't help but feel for the poor creature, whatever he was. (Apparently not a frog!) I almost asked him but he was, but I just couldn't bring myself to. He just sounded so lost and sad, I felt like I had to help him. "Is there anything we could do for you?" I asked him.

Miniwyvs

The frog perks up. "Why, yes! I... I don't think I want to be a frog anymore. I mean, I was only being a frog in the first place to get ladies to kiss me. I mean, that's just what people do when they find talking frogs!"

He blinks, and looks around at the adventurers. "Well, at least, it's what they used to do. I guess times have changed." He sighs. "But the way to change me back remains the same!" He waggles his eye-ridges again. "So... uh, hey there, ladies..."

Ember

I try hard not to snicker at Midnight's playful gesture as I follow the threads of conversation. When someone asks what we can do for the frog I can't help but wrinkle my nose a little at the answer. "Time has taught us that kissing frogs in general is not the wisest choice, I guess." I glance at the others before sighing and stepping forward. "Here goes nothing." I kiss the frog though it is little more than a quick peck before I'm stepping back again.

Miniwyvs

Romeo does a little frog dance as Ember steps back. "My first kiss in decades!" he croaks. And then he stops dancing, and begins to shimmer. Little sparkles appear around him, and then bigger sparkles, and then... rose petals. Soon, everyone in the group is surrounded by swirling rose petals in white, pink, and red.

When the obscene quantities of flower blossoms finally settle onto the ground, the frog is gone. In his place stands a short, furry, goat-footed faun. He grins impishly up at Ember. "Thank you, milady," he says with a laugh, his voice much more musical than it had been in his frog-form. "I guess it sort of backfires when you purposely get someone to curse you into a frog, but then there's no one to kiss for ages to break the spell."

He looks around. "I suppose I should reward you for helping me out." He struts over to where the tall reeds and water iris grow, and pokes around at the edge of the pond. "No... not that... ew... aha... there you are! Come... here... friend..." He lunges, somehow managing not to fall into the pond, and grabs something long and green.

The little Miniwyv he's caught wriggles in Romeo's grip, but settles right down once the faun reaches up and drapes it across Ember's shoulders. It's a bit mossy and damp, but makes an appreciative little squeaking sound.

"There you are; a new friend. You know, to replace me, because... I'm sorry. I must leave you. I can't stay forever. After all... I need to go find new realms! With even more ladies!" He grins widely, and then dashes off into the underbrush before anyone can say anything else to him.

Well, that was interesting.

Midnight blinked in suprised and Ember's bravery, she would have asked a lot more questions before even trying that! With a suprised chuckle she watched the flowery transformation of the frog to a faun then the gifting of the miniwyv before the faun disappeared to other realms. It wasn't until he left that she realized she still had on more question about this place "Congrats Ember! Darn I wanted to ask who Zirah was or even the key Ember found " she muttered then looked at the others. "Move on?"

Miniwyvs

The group moves along, farther down the gravel path. It weaves around gardens, some looking completely unkempt, some a little more taken-care of, though none particularly manicured. Sometimes, you can see leaves and flowers move within these gardens, as if there are creatures in there, scurrying about. More than once, you hear sounds.

The path cuts between two more flowerbeds. One holds lots of roses in the most vibrant shade of purple imaginable, but they grow wild and untidy.
The other garden area features a lot of weedy flowers in shades of pink, white, and yellow. They have long, stringy stems and thin leaves.

Do you:
1) Try to pick one of those gorgeous purple roses
2) Try to pick one of the weedy, tall flowers
3) Just keep walking down the path

What a turn of events! I couldn't help thinking to myself. It was so pretty here in these lovely gardens. When we walk along the flowers, I can't help but reach a hand out to the side of the path and try to catch one of the long, stringy stems of the weedy, tall flowers in my hands.

Miniwyvs

Ryuu reaches out to grab a flower.  It ends up being a white bloom, and snaps off the stem easily. Into the inventory it goes!

A building is visible up ahead. It's not very big, and as you come into better view of it, you can see that it appears to be some sort of little hut or shed.

You see the following things:
-The shed
-A black cat, grooming itself
-A metal pail
-Some empty flowerpots
-A tiny garden patch

A shed which wouldn't be out of place here but what caught her eye was the cat. "Hello..." she say said softly, making a clicking sound as she slowly approached the black cat.

Miniwyvs

The cat perks up, stopping its grooming. Unlike the frog, it does not talk, but it languidly stretches, as is the way of cats. It walks to Midnight, and sniffs at her hand, as if hoping for a treat. Finding nothing edible, the kitty contents herself with rubbing her face on Midnight, purring loudly.

Well, just seems like a normal cat, though a very friendly one!

Well. That was...something. I'm not sure a faun is much better than a frog in some aspects but my new little friend is certainly adorable and as the group moves on I reach up to pet it occasionally. The miniwyv seems content enough to remain draped over my shoulders.

While Ryuukokoro snags a weedy flower and Midnight makes friends with a (sadly) non-talking cat I decide to inspect the shed.

Miniwyvs

Ember inspects the shed. The door is locked, but... low and behold! That key that Ember had found fits perfectly. With a little snick sound, the lock clicks open, and Ember pulls the door open, allowing everyone to peek inside.

It's a tool shed for gardening. There are a lot of spiderwebs, but it's clear that it hasn't been totally abandoned. Apparently, someone still is around to tend to the gardens, which explains why some areas aren't completely overgrown.

Inside the shed, there are a few items:

-A set of plant clippers

Ryuu manages to snag one with a red plant on it, which reads "'Dragon's Breath' Celosia". YLO nabs a packet which says, "'Blue Lace' Delphinium". Midnight and Ember both grab seed packages for "'Arizona Sun' Blanket Flower". The four of you tuck away your seeds safely.

Then I took my Dragon's Breath seed packet and carefully sprinkled the seeds into the pot, covering them with a little layer of dirt.

"There, now this garden can have a little addition!" I said, glad I could help such a beautiful place, in my own little way.

(( OOC: Hopefully that's not too many steps at once! ))

Miniwyvs

The soil where Ryuu has planted the seeds sparkles, ever so slightly. The scent of magic is in the air... and a little green sproutling pops up through the soil!

It's growing faster than a normal plant would... it would probably be a good idea to stick around while it grows.
