The Circle of Thanatos

Purpose of the Circle
The Circle of Thanatos has many purposes, but their main purpose is to honor the face of Death known as Thanatos. This aspect of Death has appeared on the Fields a few times in remembered history, but not for many generations. The Circle does not expect Thanatos to return to the Fields in their lifetimes. The Circle of Thanatos is related to both the void element and the Unification Death. They are not, as many assume, a circle dedicated to honoring Death, they simply respect is as an important aspect of life.

History of the Circle
Thanatos was an apparition of Death that appeared to the very first leader of the Circle hundreds of years before. This face of Death is not Death's only face, but it is the one that this particular circle honors the most. During the first apparition of Thanatos to Namtar(the first circle leader), Thanatos marked Namtar by slicing his hind leg with three strokes of his scythe representing birth, life, and death respectively. Since that time the honor of leader has been passed down by the pervious leader choosing the new one when they feel the time for them to step down has come. Because of this, there could be two or three living leaders at a time, but only one with any real power. If a leader dies without naming a successor a special ritual is performed to discover who should be the next one.

Rituals of the Circle
The most important ritual performed by the circle is an honoring of the dead. They are called in by many herds to perform a special ceremony to help the dead to pass on to the next life smoothly. Because of this they tend to be a very nomadic circle. They tend to have a couple smaller groups wandering around the field at a time, but they were never more then a day away from their leader.

Another important ritual that the entire circle is a part of is a huge celebration on Halloween, honoring the day that is the most powerful day for their element. They also have many other ceremonies, but they are very secret, and only the highest ranking members in the circle are privy to them.

Symbols of the Circle
All members have some element of a spiral on their bodies, either in tattoo or bling. This represents their honoring the circle of life, and in particular the end of life, Death. They also have a very high regard for the Rous, and while they don't worship them like some circles do with familiars a lot of the circle have a familiar that is a Rous. They respect the Rous because of their connection to Death, as his favorite familiars.

Composition of the Circle
The Circle consists of mostly void and shadow elementally tied faes, as they have a stronger connection with Death through their element or through their connection to the month of October. They also tend to be tricorns or winged tricorns, but all types, if they are strong enough in their respect to Death can join.

The circle has a single leader who has power in the circle, but like mentioned before there can be a couple leaders alive in the circle at a time. Then there is a special class within the circle known as the Keepers. They are a group of up to 12 fae who keep the most secret rituals of the circle. There could be as few as 3 at a time however. The leader is always a part of this special group.
