I ended up trading Soul Silver for Heart Gold last minute, as I realized Growlithe was in Heart Gold. xD That is one of my most favorite Pokemon ever.
However... I'd kinda expected Houndour to be catchable in either of the games. It's not. D:
Neither is Suicune. I DON'T understand (or like!) that at all, as I wanted to be able to get a (legit) Suicune, with Raikou and Entei. T_T; Why don't they include Suicune with the other two? It's honestly a little... confuddling.

Any way, who else got the game(s) yesterday? :3

I got it right after leaving my grandparents' house. I was there for two days & 1 night, so I was without internet most of the time. o_o I have to say I'm relieved to be back home, with my new game & all that jazz. *curls up*

indigowulf

I got up too late with daylight savings to get my silver, but its bought and paid for, and Ill be getting it today when store opens. We can share friend codes and trade the gold/silver exclusive ones that arent unique (meaning the non-legendary, cuz I have no idea when Ill get those lol)

SplitX

Sounds awesome! I know I'll want a Vulpix for sure. AND a Delibird. xD That's for sure, too. >_>;

PonyMama

I was goign to get one or the other but now I can't becasue I have to find a way to get a new car.  Stupid people.

Tell me how you liek it thought as I may scrimp and save and try get it anyways

indigowulf

I was lucky, a friend came to visit and pre-paid it for me. He spoils me like that. My roommate went and picked it up for me. I just woke up and have it in my hand... so tempted to disappear for the day and just play :)

my other roommate is calling nintendo names for the pedometer. Saying "how dare they get our kids in shape, they are sposed to be just babysitters, not arobics instructers, what do we pay them for?" lol.

Lectral

First thing my hubby and I did yesterday was go pick up our copies XD

I was ahead of him in the game for all of an hour of game play that I did while he was driving XD

Ravvana

Ooh, how to pick a version...  ??? Does anybody know what version Vulpix and Ponyta are in? Hoping they're both in the same version, and then my choice will be easy ;) Ooh, and Umbreon/Espeon... anyone know about those? I think those are all of my favorites XD

Lectral

Vulpix is in Silver, Ponyta is in both

Unmbreon and Espeon are there, still evolved by time of day, and friendship I believe

Ravvana

Okay, probably going with Silver, then :)

I haven't played one of these in, oh, 2 years >.> I'll need to relearn everything, like how to evolve... and what my best team was. I could never beat the Elite Four without that strange cow Pokemon (?), for instance XD

Kadana Sorano

*twitches* which system are these for?

SplitX

*drags self in* I JUST got to Goldenrod. xD I left my game system on for like... 4 hours, so I've only played... 2 hours versus the 6 it says I did, I believe. Any way, I be slow. x3 Though I did get the radio app.

Don't forget; Bug Catching Competition is tomorrow, y'all!

In the original Silver my friend had, she caught a sparkly Kakuna in the bug catching contest. xD She beat the Elite Four with the sparkly Beedrill (once it evolved) on her team. Imagine; sparkly green beedrill, kicking butt. Hoh yeah!

Kadana Sorano

ahh figures lol I don't has that one.

Ok, my husband found out that Suicune is actually in both games, catchable, the way he was in Crystal originally - he says to never trust the guide completely, it leaves a few things out >.>

The website where my husband gets most of his pokemon info, and it has been pretty accurate for the other games XD

http://www.serebii.net/heartgoldsoulsilver/legends.shtml

the page with Suicune's info, and the other legendaries from HeartGold and SoulSilver

SplitX

*finds it infuriating that the "legit" game guide says Suicune has to be traded from Pearl, Diamond, or Platinum* I PAID for that. xDDD Lame.

Thanks though, Lectral! I was about to cry. >____>;

Lectral

the guide is good for lots of things (we bought it too), but with some of the pokemon, they leave things out - some of the old guides would give different info depending on who published it

PonyMama

just got Heart gold today.  My hubby had to buy a new playstation before ours crapped out so he bought me Heart gold.  We can't afford it but this may be the last kuxuries we get for a small while

Lectral

And it is confirmed... my husband just passed the point where you run into the legendary dogs for the first time, and Suicune was definitely present XD  Has not caught it yet, hasn't quite gotten to the catch point yet, but given how annoyingly fast he is at the game, it shouldn't be much longer

and as he just pointed out to his brother... he has 3 PC boxes of bred charmanders on one of his other games... 3 FULL boxes!!!!

Ravvana

I ordered Silver on Amazon today :) Probably won't have enough free time to really play until April, though...

hiyoko

I caught two of the legendary dogs last night.  ;)

Where are some of you at now? I just beat Team Rocket and going to the 8th gym. :D

quyllur

I just got my version of Heartgold today!

indigowulf

Good lord, I'm still working on leveling up my team enough to take gym #2. the leader's 2nd pokemon was just too high level- a 13 vrs a 19 means I dont win :)

quyllur

I'm right there with you indigo.  Just beat the Slowpoke Well bit and now leveling up my little Pidgey (and others) to take on Gym 2.

quyllur

I have a Chikorita egg  right now that I'd like to (hatch and then) trade for a Totodile if anyone is interested.

(By the way, you can breed any gender of pokemon with a Ditto and get end up with a non-ditto egg with a few exceptions, even if it says they don't like each other)

PonyMama

gym three kicked me, so luckily I saved before the final person.  of course it is an opposite gender as my main pokemon I use, so it casts a love spell so I rarely hit and it heals when I do.  Frustrating

So I am leveling and hopefully I can hit it hard enough to kill it one shot

I can trade you a Totodile.^^

Depends on the pokemon, my Charizard and ditto wouldn't breed no matter how long I walked. But my Snorlax (or another, I can't remember) and ditto said they also didn't get along, but a few more steps (which was less then w/ Charizard) and boom I got an egg.lol So it depends, may just take longer if they don't like each other much. If anything, try another ditto. I have this ditto in my Diamond and it loves to have eggs, loves 'em all.lol

quyllur

From what I've read, unless the old man at the day care says "The two prefer to play with other Pokemon than each other" then they will breed, if they don't like each other it will take longer.

I hatched the little Chikorita, now I just have to see if I can figure this whole friend code thing

hiyoko

Do you mean getting your friend code? First you have to go to the basement of the PC and log on to the wifi, then you'll get your code. I didn't know that until I tried.lol

quyllur

Math

And... I convinced my mom to get me HeartGold for Easter. :) I would have gotten SoulSilver ('cause it sounds cooler xD) but HeartGold has Growlithe so... ya know. ;)

I'm gonna get Chikorita, as despite it being my favourite Pokemon, I have yet to get one in any of my games. I read that it's harder to battle with but pfft. xD In my days as ultimate Pokemon dork (and I say that with love <3), I beat the last gym leader for my sister's friend (after the friend and my sister tried a dozen times) with her Treeko. :) I will have to migrate a Charmander from my Fire Red, and trade a Piplup from Diamond.

So I shall have my three favourite starters in one game :)

Lectral

Hmm, I always heard that the hardest ones to start with is fire, plant is supposed to be the "easy" starter - found that in one of the old strat guides, or a FAQ somewhere... it's been years since I read that XD

Math

I just read that Chikorita in general was, due to the low attack stat.

quyllur

Also, the first gym is bird type and the second is bug type, both of which have an advantage over grass type.  I usually end up with a grass type starter however because I don't like a lot of the wild caught grass types whereas there are lots of fire and water types that I can catch that I really do like (Growlithe, Vulpix, Flareon, Ponyta/Rapidash and Vaporeon, Seal, Horsea, Lapras, etc).  I did however just find out that Eevee now has a grass type evolution so I may have to look into that.

Ravvana

I'm going to start my SoulSilver soon :)

I'm looking for starter recommendations? I've read that the fire type is "easy," the water is "medium," and the grass is "hard." I, um, like easy XD However, Vulpix/Ninetails and Ponyta/Rapidash are my favorite Pokemon, no question, so it is my goal to get both on my team. As a result, starting with a less-loved fire type seems like too much fire power. Will the water or grass type starter be more useful in the long run? I'd rather be solid against the Final Four than have a super easy time at the first few gyms, if that changes anything.

red_uni387

I like a balanced team, so I went with totidile :) haven't gotten to the final four yet, but the gyms have been a slight challange for me

Ravvana

Annnd (still looking for starter recs!) I have another question XD

When can I first get Vulpix and Ponyta? And do they just level up to evolve, or do they need special gadgets?

*so excited* Haven't played a Pokemon DS game in yeeears :(

red_uni387

I've seen both vulpix and ponyta and I'm just before the 4th gym (I think) XD

pretty sure they just need levels to evolve too

quyllur

I think Vulpix might need a fire stone.

indigowulf

Vulpix is fire stone. Ponyta is level 40. Wow I knew that without looking at my books. Im a nerd.

red_uni387

awww darn gotta find a fire stone then Dx do you guys know how to get one?

quyllur

#42
You can usually find them in the little poke balls somewhere, I haven't found one yet.  You might also be able to buy one at the Department store in ...I forget the city name, but the one  with the gaming centre and the train station.

Edit:

QuoteFire Stone

Location: Can be won in the Bug Catching Contest, bought with points in the
Poketholon Dome on Tuesday, Thursday, and Sunday, or gotten from
Bill Grandfather in his house on route 25 by showing him a
Growlithe (HG) or Vulpix (SS), or on Route 36 via a trainer call.

Cost: 3000 Poketholon Points

Effect: Used to evolve Vulpix into Ninetales, Growlithe into Arcanine, and
        Eevee into Flareon.

red_uni387

thanks! :D

on route 36 via a trainer call? o.o how would that work?

quyllur

After you fight the trainer he'll ask for your phone number.  Than randomly sometime later he'll phone you and tell you he has it for you and you just have to come get it.

red_uni387

oh wow so they do give you stuff! :O

quyllur

Yup, so far all I've gotten is some berries from a guy on the route before Violet City.

Math

My mom got me the game for Easter, but she gave it to me early! :D Now, I have my dream starter Chikorita (nicknamed Nukka and she is now a level 17 Bayleef) and I've just beaten Faulkner. :) And yay for the random dude who gave me a Miracle Seed!

I need to trade my female Piplup over soon. :) And then I'm going to reset Fire Red for a female Charmander and then I'll have my favourite starters. :D

Ravvana

Newbie question, but how can I import Pokemon from old games (either GBA or DS) into SoulSilver? And how do you trade Pokemon? :-[

Math

To trade/import Pokemon from Diamond/Pearl/Platinum, you just need another DS and you just go to the union room. :)

As for the GBA ones, you need Pal Park and I completely forget the process. xD I just got back into Pokemon after a year or so... so my knowledge is gone.
