Skyblaze (Sky or Blaze for short) flew over the golden beach, enjoying the sun he loved so much. He darted over the old human castle and the thick, overgrown forest behind it, watching out for his fellow Jaeman. The sun was shining, the sky was blue, and summer had just began. The land was rich with green life and colorful, jewel-hued flowers, and young animals explored their new world.

Landing by a crystalline pool of water, Blaze took a drink, admiring his striking gold-on-dark blue hide. He was lonely, though, and wished that he had another Jaemo to talk to.

Rashida had been relaxing under the shade of a nearby tree, but the sound of splashing water caught her attention. She looked up to see a flashy stallion drinking some water, clearly admiring himself. "What a show-off" she whispered to herself. "Didn't anyone ever teach him arrogance does nót get the girl?"

"Oh common 'Shida be nice for once!" another mare responded to her whisperings.
Rashida glared at Nanu, but didn't respond. The two of them were close friends and always traveled together, but no one really understood why. They were like water and fire, nothing alike. Rashida was loud, quick to judge and actually a bit of a loner while Nanu was a bit more timid, friendly towards mostly everyone and very social.

Nanu walked up to the new arrival. "Hello there, my name is Nanu. Who are you and what brings you here?" she asks him. Hearing Nanu speak Rashida decides to interfere "Yes, explain why you are suddenly at our regular hangout." The words don't sound very friendly and Nanu gives the stallion an apologetic look. She isn't fond of her friends behavior around new Jaemo, but she knows saying anything will just make it worse.

((I colored myself two new Jaemo girls today ^^ Kennel mimics <3))

SeaCrest

((Pretty girlies!))

Blaze snorted. "I am sorry to have intruded, my dear. I am Skyblaze, but most call me Blaze."

Two Jaemo! The tan-colored mare seemed a bit snippy, but maybe that was because he had invaded their calm hangout. Nanu seemed friendly and more welcoming. With a start, he realized he had not answered her question.

"I was thirsty, so I came down to drink." He looked over at the other mare. "What is your name?"

YourLoveOnly

"My name is Rashida. But for strangers like you it is Miss Rashida." she spoke with attitude. He was in no position to ask questions, this was her hangout! She was very protective of her territory and she never understood why Nanu was so welcoming. For all they knew he could be plotting taking over their habitat.

SeaCrest

"Very well, Miss Rashida," he said easily. "Well, it looks like I am most unwelcome here, and I am done drinking. Good day to you ladies."

Blaze, deciding it would be rather rude to take off so close to the pond, disturbing leaves and stones and insects, trotted off into the trees to find another space to take off. In fact, he found one just a little ways away, and took flight, shimmering in the sun. He banked left, towards the sea once again, and landed on a cliff top where rocks sheltered the ground from wind and rain. There was his home, facing the east, and he touched down to graze a little. His garden was doing well, the vegetables plump and healthy, and jewel-toned flowers spotted here and there in the cracks of the rocks gave his stony home a cheery look. Inside, a large rock had been propped up by a smaller one, creating a window of sorts in which the sun would appear every morning. Shelves of driftwood and natural stone. It had taken Blaze many weeks to complete his home, using wet clay to hold the stones in place as he worked. Now, he had a comfortable home large enough for two or three winged Jaemo to spread their wings and still not touch the walls or each other, a soft bed of dried grasses, a chimney with a small driftwood fire, a small pool of created by a weak undergound spring where a few brightly colored fish swam, and colorful shells and stones that lined the walls.

His treasured possessions stood on the shelves; a handful of his newborn feathers, bound with twine; feathers from tropical birds that flew by from time to time; the first feather he had shed; colorful shells; pieces of sea glass; a few sparkling crystals, and a bouquet of dried flowers from the land beyond the forest. Other miscellaneous items hung around, like a human sailor's belt buckle, a gold coin, a loop of leather upon which hung a rusty key, and more.

Trotting back outside, Blaze sat down in the sun to take a nap in the warm sand.

"Wait!" Nanu shouted, but she was too late. Before she could say anything else the stallion had taken off. "Great. Now look what you've done. I'll never find new friends if you keep acting like this" she pouted. She knew Rashida couldn't stand seeing her sad. And sure enough it worked. "Fine!" Rashida yelled out. "Let's go find the idiot."

The two of them galloped away, shouting out Blaze's name from time to time. Soon enough they reached the beach where they noticed a building that appeared to be some kind of home. "Hello.. is anyone there?" Nanu dared to ask while shielding herself behind Rashida.

SeaCrest

Blaze stirred. Around the front of his house came a voice. "Hello...is anyone there?" it called. Vaguely, he remembered the voice...Nanu? That mare from the pool...Shaking his head to clear the cobwebs from it, he got up, shook the sand from his fur, and trotted around to the front of the house. His memory served him well; it was Nanu and Miss Rashida.

"Yes?" Why had they followed him? "Can I help you?"

YourLoveOnly

Nanu gave Rashida a nudge. "Err.. we.. I mean.. I.." Nanu chuckled. It was really funny to see Rashida at loss for words. That certainly didn't happen often, if ever. "Need help?" she grinned. With that comment Rashida immediately regained her cool. "Well you invaded our home, so now we're doing the same to you." "RASHIDA!!" "Okay okay, relax. Maybe that's not really what I meant to say. Let's try again. I err.. am sorry for being rude to you.. I guess." she has to force herself to say the words and then anxiously waits for his reply. Showing any kind of vulnerability was not like her at all and it made her very uncomfortable.

SeaCrest

Blaze laughed. "You are welcome to invade my home anytime. I don't get many visitors. As to the apology, I accept your apology. Am I correct that you do not like apologies?"

He stretched his wings, then turned and trotted over to the door of his home. "If you like, you can come on in. I'm surprised, frankly, that you found me. Not many hunt a flying horse."

YourLoveOnly

Rashida decided to ignore his question. Acting vulnerable was bad enough, he didn't really expect her to admit it out loud right? "We would like to come in, yes." she replied and she followed him with Nanu behind her. She felt better being around here. Sure it wasn't her own area so she could have felt unsave, but the beach was gorgeous and calming. She always felt better when people weren't trying to get into her personal space. Nanu didn't seem as comfortable with her new surroundings, but seemed eager to befriend him. She passed by Rashida and darted into the home.

"What a lovely place you have here! I never would have thought of such a thing. But.. isn't it a bit big for just you?" Nanu might be friendly and kind, she was also a bit noisy.

SeaCrest

"Thank you, Nanu. It took me ages to build it. It is a bit big, yes, but I like to have plenty of room to move. Especially in storms like the one last week! Did it hit you guys hard? I was stuck inside for eight hours! Seaweed, anybody? My friend introduced it to me. A delicacy in Earth's Japan, but I just use it for a snack." Blaze pulled down a wooden box and opened it, revealing thin, flat sheets of dried seaweed. "It's very good for you."

YourLoveOnly

Nanu seems a bit disappointed with his answer. She had expected him to live with other Jaemo that she could meet or maybe that he was preparing for a family. "You really live all by yourself? We live in a herd with some other horses. Which is kinda funny, because Rashida doesn't even really like company. Guess you kinda figured that out already" she laughed and looked over at her friend who was just standing in a corner watching them.

"There's a cave nearby our hangout so that's where we hide when there's a storm or whenever we spot a predator. It also helps that we have a couple more Jaemo to protect us. Our herd is still small, but it's a herd nonetheless." she explained. A surprised expression as Blaze presented the seaweed. "That is edible.. really? And it doesn't taste awful?" she walked closer and looked at it, her expression changing from surprise to confusion to caution.

SeaCrest

Blaze laughed. "Yes, I truly do live on my own. I just never met any Jaemo that stayed long enough for me to make friends with them. Most of them moved on quickly. I used to think I was cursed!" Seeing her eyeing the seaweed, he laughed again. "It's edible. It's quite salty, actually, but it is perfectly edible. A rather grassy flavor. Miss Rashida, would you care to try? I have other things to eat besides seaweed, if that's what you prefer. It's been so long since I had visitors!" Blaze exclaimed, swishing his tail. "Oops. See, that's why I built this place big as well. I move around a lot!"

YourLoveOnly

Rashida couldn't help but laugh. Maybe he wasn't so bad after all. Maybe he was kinda nice. He was defenitely funny and clumsy, almost in a cute way. She quickly pushed that thought out of her head. She disliked him. She disliked all new contacts. Especially ones that made her laugh. "I shall try the seaweed I guess.." Rashida decided, mainly to distract herself from more thoughts." And err.. I think I shall wait to see how Rashida reacts" Nanu added. "I'm not too sure I'll like it."

((Getting 1 AM.. YLO needs to sleeeep *drags herself away*))

SeaCrest

Blaze grinned. "Sure." He was glad that Rashida was more relaxed, and that Nanu seemed to accept him. "If you don't like the seaweed, I do have some carrots."

((Sleep, YLO, sleep! XD))

YourLoveOnly

"Hmm, let's see what Rashida thinks first" Nanu replied and looked over at her friend who still wasn't moving. "Hey 'Shida, you ever plan on eating that? Or did you turn scared?" Nanu grinned. "Of course I am eating it, don't rush me." Rashida answered in a snappish tone of voice. Just as she was about to take a bite she was startled by a sound outside. "W-w-what was that?" Nanu managed to say. "I have no idea.. Shall we go look?"

((Ooooh possible plot twist!))

SeaCrest

Blaze started. "There are three options. One, it was a stone or something. Two, it is another Jaemo. Three, it is something other than the other two options. So. Who's coming outside?" He started towards the door. "Please put the lid back on the box before you come out, or it will get soggy. And soggy seaweed does not taste good."

YourLoveOnly

"Y'know that doesn't sound too smart." Nanu simply stated while staring after Blaze. "You thínk?!" Rashida replied sarcastically. "I should follow him. You put away the seaweed and wait here." she commanded and then quickly went outside. She wasn't scared, they could always run back into the house and hide if it was a predator and anything that wasn't a predator didn't seem scary anyway.

Nanu did what Rashida asked her to do and then anxiously waited. She wasn't very brave so she had no problem with staying inside. Slowly and quietly she moved towards the door and listened carefully to figure out what was going on at the other side.

SeaCrest

"I heard that!" called Blaze. He stepped outside and came face-to-face with...a raptor of some sort. It had several rows of big, sharp teeth like a shark's, with two large fangs where the canines would have been. Red eyes, dangerous talon-like toes with jagged claws on the end, a bony body, and a long, whippy tail completed the look. "What the heck?" he whinnied, flicking open his wings. The raptor was larger than the entire house, and unless it could take it down stone by stone, Nanu would be safe. "Miss Rashida...maybe you should go back inside," he hissed before taking off. Wings glinting in the sun he circled above the raptor's head. It had a strangely handsome look about it, a cold, cruel predator's beauty. Snapping it's jaws, it leaped upward, snagging a few of Blaze's tail hairs in its teeth. "Now what?"

SeaCrest

Dawn whinnied as she trotted along the beach. A winged shape took off from the mound of rocks on the cliff - Dawn had always wondered who would live in a pile of rocks. To her, the beauty of the world was too much to be blocked out by stones and walls. She preferred to live outside, taking shelter under the trees and waking to the morning sun. As she watched, the shape darted above the head of - was that a raptor?

Breaking into a gallop, she took the steep, rocky trail up the cliff that she normally would have avoided at all costs. As she approached, she saw that it was indeed a raptor, one of the deadliest kind. But, thankfully, also one of the stupidest. She launched herself onto it's back, using her sharp front hooves at the base of the creature's neck. It screeched and twisted to throw her off, but she jumped down and circled, repeating the movement again and again until the creature lay dazed on the ground.

At this point, Blaze decided that he would be some help, and used his hooves and horns to break the neck of the creature. When that violent work was finished, he stood, panting for air, and looked at the brave Jaemo mare who had landed the first blow.

"Thank you for your help. I am Skyblaze, but you can call me Blaze," he said, inclining his head at the pretty mare.

"You are welcome. These raptors have incredibly limited intelligence," replied Dawn, refusing to give her name. She was a free soul, and had only interfered because neither of the two Jaemo facing the raptor knew what to do. Suddenly, she whipped around and galloped away.

Blaze was about to follow her when he remembered his guests. Gingerly, he rolled the body of the raptor over the edge of the cliff into the water below. Then he returned inside to see how the two mares had dealt with the appearance of the raptor and the mysterious, dawn-colored mare.
