This is just an RP for fun, and because luv said an RP can get us an extra square. >:3 Anyone from the Sokanon herd may join in!

----------------------------------------

The sun's rays were blinding that summer morning, more so than White Walker was used to. The pale gray mare kept her garnet eyes squeezed almost shut as she took a step from the glade where she had slept the night; this land was unfamiliar, and she didn't want to walk without care.

The mare's easygoing nature was reflected in her light steps. She picked her way carefully between tall grass stalks already dried of any dew that had collected the night before. Even though the hour was early, it promised to be a hot day.

It seems the land here is rich, anyway, the little mare reflected, her tail snapping at a fly that buzzed near her hindquarters. The grass was green and the air was hot but held moisture; there was water somewhere nearby. Not near enough for her delicate, shell-like ears to hear, but near enough to be a comfort. Much better than the land they had to leave before, where they had almost starved.

Her eyes now adjusted to the sun's morning glare, White Walker picked up her head and stepped swiftly, looking for others of her herd who she knew had slept nearby.

Upon hearing the super faint step of another member stirring, she cautiously sniffed the air. Hmm.. No rain today, what a bummer. Opening her eyes, and looking towards the clearing, man, that light ws super bright today. She gazed lovingly at the pine tree she called her own. She stretched a bit before rising, poking her head around the corner, she saw it was White Walker.

Her own dappled grey coloring.. Maybe the other mare wouldn't see her. Ok, she couldn't hide forever. Tossing her head, she stepped towards the clearing.

"Good morning, White Walker!" she said then started to giggle. Oh, it was going to be a fine hot day today, she loved those the best. Any day was a day she loved the best though. With a tiny little stamp of her hoof, she looked around. Would the others start to awake soon? Or should the adventure start? Well, to her every day was an adventure, so that was no biggie either. "So, what'll we do today? Go find the water hole? That would be too fun!" She giggled with girlish delight. "Ohh, White Walker, do you see that?" The little mare focused her entire attention on something that was just beyond her pine tree. The apple tree! Where a few of the apples had started to bud! "Soon!" she whispered, not sure if White Walker would understand, or even hear her.

Shara sat on a grassy knoll, watching the herd stir on the plain beneath her. She silently wondered what the two grey mares were discussing. She had always thought that "girl talk" with other mares was overrated. If you were going to talk about something, why not talk about serious matters -- land, necessary tasks, herd hierarchy? She shook her head, knocking the dead grass collected in sleep out of her mane, and then carefully picked her way down to Julianna and White Walker.

"Good morning," she intoned, consciously working on being social. In her old home, being solitary was preferred and necessary; here, daily interaction was required for the herd to function -- especially for her as second to the herd leader. She was still adjusting. Having overhead the end of Julianna's conversation, she questioned, "Are we looking for water today?"

Kahlira

Julianna's beautiful blue eyes seemed to grow twice as large, the second in command, asking her a question? The thought seemed to flabbergast her. The almost leader asking her advice? She blinked slowly. "Well, maybe..." she finally said, a bit sheepishly, looking down at the grass. "If you want to" she perked back up a little bit. Almost meeting Shara's eyes.

Water was fun! Maybe she could play her favorite game of splash! Ohh, but cold water on a hot day, especially when said water was under trees made it so much more special.

Frozen River had been up for quite some time now, keeping a jungle green eye opened to danger that might threaten his herd and their silently sleeping forms. The night had been warm, and the morning sun even warmer, keeping this old man confined to the shade of the trees, grumbling at the sun's strength. Really, when was winter coming back? Frost would much rather stomp in the snow than bake under the light of the sun.

Seeing as 3 of his mare's gathered, Shara, is second in command included, he gave a mighty shake and started to lift his hooves, trotting down to greet them. "Morning..." He said in his gruff voice, circling the girls before coming to a stop.

"Did everyone rest soundly?" It was only his duty as heard leader that made him ask. He should always know of the well being of his herd.

Shara nodded at Julianna and tried a small smile to help settle her herdmate's apparent unease. She was glad that the herd had something to accomplish today.

Seeing Frost approach, she nickered a greeting and answered, "I really don't need much sleep... I kept watch for a few hours, but then I slept well. Thank you for asking." She was not usually one for polite formality, but she had been raised to treat a herd leader with the greatest respect, especially when the leader was as seasoned as Frost. She continued, "We're considering setting out for the nearby water today. Have you seen any signs of its direction?"

White Walker had a faint smile on her muzzle as young Julianna burbled to her like a bubbling spring. The talkative Fable always brightened her day with her energy and her optimism.

The pale mare dipped her head in greeting to Shara and Frost as each of them approached, giving due respect to those that had taken on the responsibility of protecting and leading the newly formed herd. "Good sun rise," she said simply to the dun-colored mare.

For the lead stallion her eyes lingered on his body, concerned for his shuffling walk. Was he having trouble seeing in the bright sun's light, or was the heat giving him trouble? "Perhaps it would be best to find the watering hole," she agreed, flicking an ear to try to hide her concern.

Frost eyed White Walker, his head lifting and his neck arching in defense of her concerned look. He was fine! A little hot, but nothing to worry about. In fact, a little water would do him, and his herd some good. He wouldn't deny that he was thirsty.

Lifting his feet high in a sideways trot, he tossed his mane. "I do know where some water is actually. Follow me." He gave a slight smile before trotting towards the east, slowing to a easy walk. He had smelt the water earlier, as he was making his rounds about the herd. It shouldn't be too far.

Hydroxide had been patrolling the Sokanon borders all morning. It wasn't because she didn't trust Frost as leader, no, but she always had liked to do things on her own. So when she managed to stumble across the other herd members - not resting or grazing as usual - but with a playful glint in their eyes, as they trotted east, she immediately set out to follow suit.

Hydroxide wasn't good at teamwork, but she did love to be social and be part of something. Once she got in range, she heard a faint whisper of "water" and "follow me" and her spirits and ears immediately picked up. "Wait for me!" She yelled out, as she stumbled into a hasty gallop after the pack.

There's water around here yet! Julianna said to herself. Oh yes, "It'll be a fine day!" she called aloud, she lipped at the grass, not tasting it, just... Well, she felt like it needed a bit of love from time to time, besides, the grass which grew beside the water hole was always sweet. "C'mon!" she called, not entirely sure she knew who she was talking to. The hummingbird perhaps? Not wanting to be left behind herself, she took off at a brisk trot to catch up with the leader and Hydroxide. This will be a wonderous adventure yet!

The young herdmate's shout of "C'mon!" broke through the warm haze of sleep and dragged Sarg reluctantly into the real world.  Blinking in the light he swivelled his ears in the direction the herd was moving.  An older male, though not as old as Frost, he was well built, strong and able.  The herd wandering off did not concern him, after all, they would be back later. He yawned and stretched, going to stand in the sun to let its rays warm his muscles before setting off at a gentle trot after the rest of the herd. He assumed they were going to the nearest water source and the thought of cool water on what promised to be a rather hot day called to him.

Shara fell in behind the herd, keeping watch in the rear while Frost led. She enjoyed sharing the responsibility for keeping the herd safe; it gave her mind something to focus on during their many journeys. So far, though, this land had seemed surprisingly safe. We'll still want to build a boundary at some point, she mused to herself as she trotted along.

White Walker followed Julianna's joyful heels as the younger mare bounded across the landscape, following the dusky blue form of their leader. Being the quiet sort, White Walker allowed Julianne to chatter away, only nodding her head in response. Her eyes strayed toward Frozen River and his unwavering course. He seemed to know exactly where to go, which was a comfort to the pale mare.

Slowly the others of the herd trickled in, until one and all they were heading for their territory's precious source of water. A lifesaver to a herd still getting their bearings in new territory, the water hole was actually a spring that fed into a small river, cutting alongside their land.

White Walker cast her across across her herd. Their noble leaders, Frozen River and Shara. The bubbly Julianna. Sarg and Hydroxide, the ones who stood on their own. And herself, quiet and musing. Together they depended on one another and drew strength in times of weakness. She couldn't keep a smile off her muzzle as she picked up her hooves, winking playfully at Julianna as she passed her.

Once at the water Frost stopped at it's banks, doubling back to circle his herd, making sure no one was left behind or hurt. Green eyes scanned each and every one of the herd members, smiling to them if their eyes met. He shepperd them to the bank, happy with their health.

In this new land, everything seemed safe enough, but Frost had been through a lot in his days and couldn't let old habits die. Besides, the moment he stopped be so fickle about the herds health and well being, that is when something will happen, and he couldn't have that.

Coming into the back of the herd, he walked beside Shara, his second in command. "All seems well..." he said with a friendly bump, "Why don't you join the rest of the herd and get a drink?" His second in command was a great help, but sometimes she focused to much on work. That was Frost's job as lead stallion. Mares, even second in command mares, should not worry so much.

Ravvana

Shara looked up in surprise, having been lost in thought. "Yes," she answered Frost, "This seems like a safe place." She hesitated, glancing toward the spring. "I will go down now. Just call for me when you want me to take watch." She wouldn't have admitted it, but she was thirsty after the walk.

She headed toward the water, coming to a stop beside White Walker and lowering her head to get a drink. "It's getting hot," she mused to the other mare. Shara did not know the other members of the herd intimately yet, but she liked that White Walker didn't waste words.

She glanced behind her, reassured to see capable Frost standing guard. Then she lay down, resting her front hooves in the cool water, and silently watched the stream's few fish swim aimlessly.

The walk had been longer than Sarg had thought and he was very glad to see the cool water beckon to him. He flopped down beside the stream with a grunt, stretching his neck out to drink to cool sweet water. His thirst slaked he gazed about at the rest of the herd. He was downstream of them, which suited his purpose. With a sigh of relief he closed his eyes and held his breath as he rolled off the bank and let the cool water close over his head. He shook his head underwater, making sure his mane was soaked though before moving upstream towards White Walker and Shara, making sure he was splashing lots.

Julianna's eyes grew larger as she approached the water hole, definitely noticing the sly wink rom her companion, she couldn't help it, she ran towards the water hole. Ohh! It would feel so blessed and cold! A little splash wouldn't hurt anything, would it? She was feeling polite today, so walked just a tiny bit away from them, enough so that her splash wouldn't get the others wet. With a shrill cry of pure joy, she took off at a dead run, and didn't stop until the water was up to her belly. then, she decided, what better then a roll? Putting her lips to the cool water, she took a short drink. It felt so much better to play in it then to drink it, for the moment.

Walking a bit towards the shallower part, she dropped down, and dignity be damned, rolled. Squealing her pleasure the entire time. Oh what joy!

Watching Sarge's approach, oh man, looked like he was having fun! "Hey Sarge, blast and a half!" she called to him by way of greeting. Then she reared up to her fullest height, and flopped backwards, rolling, splashing, loving the water.
