I need help with a pokemon team

Neocridders

Alright, my fellow pokemon trainers.

Me and my boyfriend both like pokemon. He has this insane team that I can't beat with my normal team.

My normal team consists of a combo of Growlith (soon to evolve when I get all the moves I want), durant, whimsicott, floatsel, dragonite, tyranitar, emboar, noctowl

My boyfriends team:
Togekiss - weak to rock, electric, ice
strong to bug, grass
immune to ground, ghost

Froslass - weak to rock, ghost, steel, fire, dark
strong to poison, bug, ice
immune to normal, fighting

Salamence - weak to rock, ICE (4x damage), dragon
strong to fighting, bug, fire, water, grass
immune to ground

Flygon - weak to ICE (4x damage), dragon
strong to poison, rock, fire
immune to ground, electric

Eelectross - weak against NOTHING. TT.TT
Strong to flying, steel, electric
immune to ground

Hydreigon - weak to fighting, bug, ice, dragon
strong to ghost, fire, water, grass, electric, dark
immune to ground, psychic

So I have a new Milotic that he gave me. Level 100, knows scald (water that can leave a burn), and an ice move, and toxic

I figure I'll need to gain some pokemon with ice moves.

Please help me?
What pokemon can I get to help me here?

He also gave me a mew. I don't know if I'll use her, but he told me it's unbeatable. He made that pokemon through a cheat so I don't know if I'll want to use it.

Thanks guys. If you need more info about moves of my pokemon, let me know

SkySong

Ok, the first things that I noticed is that he has weakness against ice and rock in most of his party. He also can kick any bug's butt.

Although, for help, posting moves would be more helpful. I'll see about building you a team in a sec. Be warned, though, I have no clue about Gen 6, so it will probably only be from Platinum and down.

Neocridders

I don't have his moves. >.>

Mew (probably won't use): Psychic, Aura Sphere, Thunderbolt, Ice Beam
Milotic (water): Scald, Recover, Ice Beam, Toxic
Emboar (fire fighting): Flare Blitz, Return, Rock Smash, Flamethrower
Floatzel (Water): Ice beam, dive, surf, razor wind
Tyranitar (rock dark): Dragon tail, hyper beam, thunderbold, stone edge
Durant (bug steel): x-scissor, guillotine (1 hit KO), crunch, iron head
Noctowl (normal flying): confusion, fly, take down, hypnosis
Whimsicott (grass): hurricane, endeavor, poisonpowder, energy ball
Dragonite (dragon flying): flamethrower, thunder, outrage, hyperbeam
Growlith (fire): dig, crunch, fire fang, heat wave

So if you know any tm/hm moves that I could swap in that would be better, I'm up for it :) Noctowl and Growlith are not at super high levels. Growlith is about 52, noctowl is at like 32.
The others are well above 50.

And thanks so much for posting. I was a little peeved, to be honest, about PI. I posted this same thing and the thread was deleted because they wanted me to post it as a comment in the 'official pokemon thread'... i didn't know they had an official pokemon thread. Made me kinda mad. But whatever. Atleast I have secundi <3 <3

SkySong

That's fine - it would have helped, but it isn't necessary.

And I'm thinking maybe a Graveler/Golem... Your Floatzel or Milotic will probably be needed with their ice moves... I wouldn't recommend Durant, because of the bug, but that may chance once I look stuff over. Tyranitar might be a good choice as well - its a good power hitter. If you could get a Chansey, they are super annoying with their high defense and hp. I'm not sure on the moves, I'll have to check with my brother for those. Your Noctowl would only be good for Hydreigon, as well as putting things to sleep.... (Sorry I'm all over the place here.)

I tend to do type match ups, and then throw curve-ball moves. I'll keep those in mind, but I hope you don't mind if I throw in some other pokemon.

No problem! I absolutely love this part of pokemon - so many different strategies you can do. And that's one of the reasons why I haven't bothered getting into PI. Secundi is just... Easier.

I'd love other pokemon suggestions. As for chansey, what kind of moves would I want?

So no durant (the only reason I keep him on my team is that he is my first shiny pokemon and I was so excited he became a favorite) but yeah. I'll be ok with getting rid of him.

So yes milotic (she seems much more powerful, actually my boyfriend traded me her when I got mew. So I think I'd like to use her!)

I'll train up my noctowl.

SkySong

Ok, do you have a Gyarados? It would be really helpful against Flygon, and can possibly be used for back up against Hydreigon and Salamence. And don't start with Noctowl just yet - You may or may not have room for it.

Chansey - Minimize, Ice Beam, Rock Slide, Shadow Ball, Soft Boiled are some moves for you to pick from. I'd strongly recommend Soft Boiled, as it is a good healing move. Ice Beam, Rock Slide, and Shadow Ball are your curve balls, And all of them are fairly strong. If you put Ice Beam and either Rock Slide or Shadow Ball, you can use Chansey to potentially beat everyone, except maybe Eelektross.

And I seriously say Graveler. It can learn Smack Down, which will get rid of Eelektross's Levitate. Which means that until it switches out, you can hit it with all the ground moves you want! Also, the only water move Eelektross can learn is Rain Dance. It can be taught Grass Knot, but that's the only grass.

Smack down! Brilliant! Thanks!
And I'll work on getting a Chansey.
Thanks so so much!!

SkySong

Not a problem! It's rather fun helping out with this.

Also, if you can find another pokemon that learns Smack Down, and would like to use it instead of Graveler/Golem, feel free. But, if you don't mind Graveler, here are some moves that I picked out - Smack Down Earthquake/Magnitude Toxic? Rollout? Rock Slide? Rock Throw? Gyro Ball? Flame Thrower??

One ? means they might be good fillers, and the ?? is a very tentative listing. I'd only put Flame Thrower on if you are having serious trouble with Froslass. (This is because it's the only one fire does more than x1, and 4/6 are resistant) Once you put Smack Down, which can also be used for Salamence and Togekiss, you have three slots, so I'd use earthquake or magnitude, at least one rock move, and either the other earth move, another rock, toxic, or if you do have serious problems with Froslass, Flame Thrower.

I have a problem... I'm not sure how to get a chansey or happiney. Hmm. This might be hard...

SkySong

Hmm... It looks like you can only trade for one in Black/White. I have a Platinum, so if I can get one I'll trade it to you? Not sure if that will work or not if you don't have Wi-Fi.

Or if you have White you can find Happiny in the White Forest then evolve from there.

I do have white but I don't have any Pokemon in my white forest and can't figure out how to get Pokemon there.

SkySong

I can't help you then - I have no experience with Black/White. Do you have Wi-Fi?

Neocridders

I think so. Yeah. I'm on the GTS so Inhould have wifi

SkySong

Ok! So if worse comes to worse, I can get off my lazy butt and finish up in the area I am and trade you a chansey.

Another question - what Ability does your Tyranitar have? If it has Sand Stream, I recommend against using it - it'll be less than helpful for you if you send out any other non rock/ground/steel pokemon after you send it out.

Yes it has sand stream. Alright then. :) thank you

SkySong

#17
So I wouldn't use him, either.

So, so far we have Graveler, Chansey, Milotic.... Between the three you could in theory handle all of his pokemon with Graveler's Smack Down and Rock moves covering Eelektross and Froslass, while the other two use ice on the rest of them. I think it would probably be a good idea to back up with maybe a Gyrados, for ice moves, as well as dragon, but I don't think it's completely needed. You might also be able to use your Dragonite, but because it's Dragon, it is susceptible to dragon moves from his three dragons. You could also add a Whiscash in case Graveler faints before you get rid of Eelektross, but it's up to you.

What levels are his pokemon, roughly?

Edit: I just realized ice is super effective against Graveler, so maybe you want to stick a Spiritomb or Sableye on your team? They are rather handy - nothing is super effective against them.

Neocridders

Hmm. I might try those spiritomn or sableye. I couldn't find a graveler on the gts that was reasonable to trade for.
So maybe I could find a different pokemon with smack down? Like onyx? Or dwebble?

SkySong

Or you could go for a Geodude - you'll have a lot of training to do, and Graveler learns smack down at 27. An Onyx would be the second best - Dwebble is alright, but both Onyx and Graveler aren't affected by electric. I'm also more partial to the first two because I'm more familiar with them.  :P And Spiritomb has better stats over all, but you are more likely to find Sableye, especially if you are using the GTS.

Also, I'd be happy to help you get any of these via my own game, but that will be guaranteed slower because of the state of it atm.

Neocridders

I'll try out the GTS for onyx and spiritomb and sableye

Neocridders

Ok I have a geodude I found on the GTS and an onyx I caught

SkySong

Awesome! You may or may not need both of them, but you can. His team is skewed towards Dragon and Flying, so going towards Rock and Ice are generally a good idea. The team may not be the best for general use, but should be able to beat the team he likes to use.

So Graveler, Onyx, Chansey, Sableye/Spiritomb, Milotic, and Gyrados should be a good team against him. Just make sure you don't use your waters with his Froslass and Eelectross, and try to only use one Rock/Ground against Froslass - if one faints, your Ghost/Dark pokemon you get should finish it off.

Neocridders

So just for clarification, when do I use smack down? Against the flying types?

:)
So I'm pretty sure his first Pokemon will be togekiss. He started with that one last time.
So I guess start with graveler?

Thanks so much!
Ok I have Milotic, graveler, onyx.
I need gyrados (I'll look on the GTS), spiritomb (currently requesting one on the GTS), and Chansey.
If you could trade me a Chansey that'd be great. But I've never traded with someone without black or white. Not sure how id do that.

Thanks for your help!

SkySong

Salemance, Togekiss, and Eelektross you use Smack Down. Remember, once they switch out, you have to use the move again. When facing those three, use Smack Down before you use any ground moves, obviously.

Graveler or Onyx - And Togekiss is Flying/Normal, so you'd be better using rock moves against it. Also, I think it might be able to infatuate your pokemon, so if you happen to have a female Onyx and a male Graveler, then perhaps you want to send out the pokemon that has the same gender.

Hm... It appears the only way to get a pokemon from Gen 4 to Gen 5 is via transfer, but I'll see if I can put a Chansey on GTS that you can grab. I've done a bit of reading, and there isn't anything saying that pokemon can't be traded from 4 to 5 via GTS, so I'm hoping that will work.

Hmmm. I can't request a chansey unless I've seen one in my game. So I'm not sure if that will work.

SkySong

There is that. Do you want to see if you can figure out the White Forest thing?

I might be able to get my boyfriend to help me get to the white forest.
But I'm also asking on PI for help.
I doubt I'll be able to find someone to trade on PI. You're so helpful!! Thanks a million.

PonyMama

I wish I could offer some help but I can't even trade pokemon away right now to try and help you out, as all my games are MIA
and what's sad is I think I have chansey or a few of them on one of my games, obviously they would need serious leveling up

I am just no help and having heat stroke is not helping me think either

But it is nice you can do battles with somone

Neocridders

Thanks anyway pm!
I've looking for spiritomb on the GTS currently, and I've got a geodude, onyx, gyrados, Milotic, and graveler. I just need to train them and get good moves.

Any other move suggestions?

SkySong

Sure - I'll go and look through their move possibilities. You would like moves for... all but graveler?

Neocridders

So far for graveler (who is now at level 48) I have smack down, bulldoze, rock throw, earthquake.

I would love move suggestions, and if you think I should pick different moves for graveler, let me know.
:) Thanks!

SkySong

I think the moves you have work well enough. I have no experience with Bull doze, but if it's a move you like, go for it. If your boyfriend's party is typically stronger than that level, then perhaps you might want to train it a bit more, but other than that I'd say you're ready to move on to the next pokemon.

Here are some moves for Gyarados -

Bite
Dragon Rage
Dragon Tail
Ice Fang
Ice Beam
Aqua Tail
Scald
Surf
Rain Dance + Thunder
Thunderbolt

Perhaps having Surf, Thunderbolt, Ice Beam and Dragon Tail would give you a good variety there, but you can pick a different move set if there are moves that appeal to you better.

I'll probably get graveler at a higher level later

Neocridders

He gave me his ds and game for the week. So I was trying to get a happiny but somehow I couldn't.

Still working on it.

SkySong

Hmmm.... Well, if either of you have gen 4, you can get a happiny/chansey in there, then transfer it over.

I have all the Pokemon.
Now I need to train them and get the right moves.
Right now I'm training spiritomb, but Id love move advice for all of them :)

SkySong

Ok! I'm in the middle of coloring, but I'll get moves for you once I'm done.

SkySong

Ok, so here's what I've got.

Graveler - moves good as you have them.
Smack Down
Bulldoze
Rock Throw
Earthguake

Onyx - should probably not have Dig with Earthquake. Iron Tail isn't the best move, but it's there if you really want to use it.
Smack Down
Dragon Breath
Earthquake
Dig
Rock Slide
Iron Tail

Gyarados - only really need one of each type. So you don't need Dragon Rage and Dragon Tail, or Ice Fang and Ice Beam. Perhaps Surf, Thunderbolt, Ice Beam, and Dragon Tail?
Bite
Dragon Rage
Dragon Tail
Ice Fang
Ice Beam
Aqua Tail
Scald
Surf
Rain Dance + Thunder
Thunderbolt

Milotic - if you go with Aqua Ring, give it a Big Root, so that it heals more. Water Pulse confuses some times, so you may want to keep that in mind.
Water Pulse
Aqua Tail
Aqua Ring with Big Root
Ice Beam
Dragon Tail
Surf
Toxic

Spiritomb - Try to get one dark and one ghost in there, but this is pretty much up to you to decide.
Faint Attack
Dark Pulse
Shadow Ball
Will-O-Wisp
Rock Tomb
Toxic
Thief
Snarl
Facade
Hyper Beam

Chansey - added a few more moves here, as well.
Minimize
Ice Beam
Rock Slide
Shadow Ball
Soft Boiled
Egg Bomb
Sing
Thunderbolt
Flamethrower
Brick Break
Earthquake

These are just recommendations. :) They fit my battle style, and I'm not sure how some of them would do in double or triple battles.

I can't remember all the details. I know he lead with his togekiss and I used smack down. But over all he managed to kill my rock types, so smack down only helped me for a moment.

In the end, I managed to get him with Ice attacks. Blissy was a big help. Although she had terrible attack and defense, her HP made up for it. And any ice attacks were very helpful because his last three pokemon were all bad against Ice types.

:) Thanks so much!
