Alright so some of you may remember my posts about my moms 39th birthday cake I made for her last year. I had used fondant for the first time, molded a dog out of rice krispy treat, and tried to make it look cool.

Well, now I'm going for a new awesome cake for my boyfriend's 19th birthday (March 21st)!
The only issue i see with this cake, is the fact that we will be in florida on vacation during this time, so I'll have to bring all my supplies with me, and plan to make the cake when hes sleeping or when the guys take him out for a bit and leave me to my cooking. :P (Going with Tim and I's best friends - Matt and Dustin. Matt's parents are taking us there, but staying in a room away from us so we can feel like we are there alone XD)

Anywho! Tim LOVES his Xbox; and I don't blame him because I do too. So thus, my inspiration for his birthday cake! His cake is going to be an xbox controller, complete with buttons, and a little acheivement blurb, saying something along the lines of 'Acheivement Unlocked! Turning of the 19th year', or something else I can think of, probably lame XD

Now, this birthday cake HAS to be special for him because for his 16th, 18th, and graduation, he didn't really get a party, or a really cool cake, or even a big celebration. I LOVE birthdays, an dmake them a huge deal, so I will make darn sure this cake makes his whole vacation!!

I'm also adding in info and stuff for two other cakes I've been commisioned to make. One for my cousin Ayla, for her sons first birthday (Aidan), and the other for my Aunt Judy, for her daughter Sierra's 16th birthday!

I've been plotting this cake for about 2 weeks now, and I will continue to plot and gather everything I need within the next 2 months until his birthday, just to be sure I get everything right and perfect for his special day!

The Plan

Tims Cake:

I've been looking through various threads and recipes for what I'm going to need, and sizing up how much work I have in store for myself.
I'm going to start with taking a picture of an xbox controller, resizing it to 8.5x11 and printing it so I can use that as a stencil for cutting the cake into shape and the button sizes and such. I plan to make a tiny batch of marshmallow fondant for all the buttons and the acheivement blurb except the colored buttons. Those will be made with airhead candy! The cake will be a chocolate cake (2 layers) with chocolate icing covering each cake from top to bottom, side to side, and the middle. (He said he wants a chocolate cake, chocolate icing, thats that, s thats what hes going to get <3) I'll be using gel food ink from Wilton for coloring the icing black, as well as the fondant for the buttons. (He uses a black controller) I've considered adding a little 'cd disc' to my plan, with the Black Ops II logo on it, since that and Dead Island are his favorite games to play, but I'm not totally sure yet.

Ayla's Cake for her son's 1st birthday, Aidan

Ayla wants a red velet cake, three tier's, witha mickey mouse theme! I plan to go buy three different sized cake pans to do this cake, and am going to use a cream cheese buttercream icing recipe to coat the cakes before I cover them with fondant. The three teirs will contain the colors and iconic 'mickey mouse head sillouhette' with a '1' at the top of the top teir.

Not too much info yet, I know. I havent plotted it out well yet.

Sierra's 16th Birthday Cake

Sierra's cake has a definant plan and set visual I've thought of already. She's going to have a vanilla, three tierd cake covered in buttercream icing, which will be covered by fondant. The bottom tier will be an anime theme of her favorite anime show, Shugo chara. I'm going to stick cake pops with little character faces on them all around the bottom tier. The middle tier will be teal fondant, with black japanese lettering that will spell out 'Happy 16th Birthday Sierra' and her favorite symbol that says 'Love' on it. The top tier will be a cherry blossom theme, with cherry blossom flowers made out of fondant that will be set out to dry so they dont fall apart when placed on the cake. I am SO excited for this cake!!

Grats, Wild!  It's wonderful to find something that you click with AND people want to pay for.  This may just be what you've been needing?  I'll keep you in my thoughts and can't wait to see the cakes!!

Wildfilly94

I just need to get myself a job so I can afford the proper cake stand I need, and I'm good! Haha.

I appreciate it Luv, thank you so much!! <3

Ayla's cake is needed on March 5th, so that will be the earliest one done. Then Tims on the 21st of March, and then my cousin Sierra's on May 23rd (or 25th, I forgot)

I'll have sketches or something up soon though!! <3 I need to add in info for Ayla and Sierra's cakes now, i think.. XD

Tims cake? SUCKED. The pieces looked perfect and then once we got to florida they all stuck together and broke and just looked bad. THEN, I tried to cut a cake I'd never worked with before and it totally crumbled apart when I cut it (Terrible brand, never again). The photo ref was too big for the cake, so I had to try to cut it by my own memory, which made it look like a batman symbol. Then the icing made it look worse. I lost my toothpick for the icing on the acheivment button, so that was scratched into the button by knife and looked horrid. So it looked like a crappy batman symbol falling apart with smudged dots and broken black buttons all over it. But it tasted fine, so it was okay. Now they tease me saying their moms make better looking cakes, blahhblahblah.. :/
No pictures. I'm too embarrassed.

Ayla's cake for Aiden was great! Some pieces broke and slid down the cake, but I got good pictures before that. The middle tier I had trouble rolling cause the cakes weren't cut totally flat down the sides, so it bulged a little, but otherwise the cake was a huge hit and everyone loved it!
