How do you Decide Which Dogs?

I started off with wanted GSD's.. then I snagged an amazing pittie i fell in love with from Taru, then a Rottie, then a Borzoi..

Then I fell in love with Mala's when thier lines were done and decided to start a 'Winter/sled' breeds kennel, then I added American Eskimo's to it.. and Akita's... and thinking of adding Shiba's too. Then now im here on Secundi, I look at all my dogs (not all imported) and wonder if I should do a Mala only kennel, cos they are so pretty..

Then I look at the Wolfhounds and think they are beautiful.. not to mention I found a pic of a Border Collie i just *had* to put a custom in for, so then I *had* to get a mate for her and still I see other dogs that make me go, omg! I want one...

So... How do you decide what breeds to go for and which to not? Did you have a grand scheme of sticking to 4 breeds? Has anyone found they have 'gone off' a breed?

I currently have 22 different breeds. I definitely have 4 or 5 favorites that I focus in, but I didn't want to restrict myself to only those breeds. If I like the lineart, I get a few dogs of that breed

Me too! If I like the art then I have to get at least one of that breed.lol

well, as I've said, my one big goal for my kennel is to have atleast one breeding pair of all breeds. 

Which means it's a goal that will constantly have to be worked on, as the kenenl creates new breed lines and such.

But yes, When I first got into the kennel I kept seeing people looking for this, or that breed, and no one had any for sale.  So I figures, have a kennel that has atleast one breeding pair of every breed, and I could satisfy any need that arose.

So, in part, it was just good business sence.  In another part, it quiets the "collector" in me.  Kennel is just another version of "Gotta catch em all!" as far as I am concerned lol

rules for myself: must be medium or bigger, long haired, and stocky build.

My first was the Pit Bull and for that I will always ahev a love for the lineart.
German Shepards and Poms I like too because I enjoy the lineart and how I can use the colors on them.
Mini Pinschers are another one that I enjoy the lineart for, and even in RL I do enjoy these dogs.
The chinese crested dogs, I have always found to be funny looking but somehow the lineart for them has me trapped, so I need more.
and then I got my first Norwegian Elkhound and fell in love, however I do liek them better with dark colors.

But lately my very favorites are Italian greyhounds, they are sleak and come in a wide variety of colors (in my kennel at least)
