Secundi

     A sign flaps in the wind as you approach the gated ranch. A dirt road leads to a main house. The sun warms the back of your neck as you go towards it, on either side of the road are fenced pastures with billydogs bleating at you in curiosity, or growling in mock threat. A few just flicks their ears, dismissing you. They are panting, you see there are kennel entrances for the animals to escape into for shade and your worry dissipates.
You finally make it to the cool office building. A black ram in a tacky maroon suit greets you.
"I reckon you got my invite."
    He motions for you to follow him. The back door of the office opens to a sort of outdoors fair. Large white pole tents line a main path.
"Your itinerary." The ram flashes a corny smile big enough to show a golden tooth, before he hands you a pamphlet and goes off to help with the fair. Presumably.

You walk along the tents. The creatures in the cages catch your eye, they're all different so this must be the demo. There are also price tags on each cage. It says 5,000 sg Adoption Fee.

First is the cage labeled Landrece. She looks up at you, wags her tail in a half hearted attempt and goes back to lapping water from her bowl.

The prefix rule has been changed so that only pups you breed will get a prefix. Caprani produced from different kennels get both prefixes.

I have twelve Caprani whose colors and markings borrow inspiration from two animals. There will be a round for each one. To win one, you must guess both animals by using the prompt provided. If it seems no one is guessing correctly, hints will be provided.


1.If you win a round, you must sit out the next. But after that you can join in again!
2.You can guess up to three times in separate posts, but must allow three other people to guess before you can submit your next guess.

Tips:On animals that have species with distinct colors and patterns, it is generally better to post the specific species. Don't post 'snake' when the answer is 'cornsnake'. 'snake' is far to general an answer. On the other hand, animals like Zebras don't have extremely distinct pattern/color. Yes, there are visual differences, but not enough for this game.
If you get a breed you don't specialize in, you can always trade it!

At the far end of the fair, you notice a few people gathered around a wooden stage. A booming, megaphoned voice is drawing interest in.
"Free, that's right, free! This lovely silver nanny can be won with the help of luck in our raffle oooon wings!"
As you get closer you hear the beating of wings. The Kacia lands from a higher, carpeted platform on the stage. She regards everyone curiously with a twitch of her blue antennae.

The inspiration for this event comes from my grandmother's kennel, who used song names for their dog's show names. For this event, you will do the same. You'll suggest songs or lyrics that will become the capranis show name and I'll create what I think the Capranis would look like based on the song. I will only do the ones that inspire me, everyone will get to suggest one song unless I decide there isn't enough.
I also have a few songs I want to do but don't think people will choose them, and I will give these Caprani away later.


You can do instrumental songs, movie soundtracks, bands from any era, pop songs, classical, opera, dubstep, whatever. It is possible to be inspired by any genre or format. Of course there are things I generally don't get into, such as slow vocal songs, easy listening, songs with little contrast or edge.
I really don't want to say 'don't do this type of song' but keep in mind I have to be able to get idea of color, shapes, and emotion from songs and lyrics, which isn't the easiest thing. But it is fun.

The funny thing is, even though Maine shares a border with Canada, we don't really have any Canadian geese here. Not in the southern part of the state, anyway, where all the people are. (The northern half of Maine is just pine trees and ranger stations. There might be some up there. XD )

BUT I lived out west in Indianapolis for a year and there's TONS of Canadian geese there! Haha they really are a pest, though I'm a lover of all things winged and yes, I love geese. But I would see these guys would just walk right across a busy four-lane street, never mind if cars are coming right at them, not even pausing. They had no fear. And they would land in giant flocks and take over your front yard without warning. You'd just wake up and find like 10 giant birds in your yard one morning. Hahaha. Oh but I loved them...so pretty and so fearless! ......actually, Fearless is a pretty good name for my new guy! ^__^


On another note, it occurred to me last night that I think my kennel wants to try to crossbreed Eski and Inse successfully, to see if I can make a new long-coated breed designed to work in mountain regions comfortably. ^_^ Yay for new goals!

I live in Arkansas, and the geese are horribly thick here in the winter, they are everywhere! Candian Geese as well as Snow Geese, and several different types of ducks.

I didn't know you were in Maryland, Misplaced! Actually I thought you were over in Britain because you listed the caprani's birthdays with the day first and then the month, which I always thought was a Europe-only practice. XD; That's what I get for assuming!

Oh yes! A lot of adoptables here on Secundi have specific goals through breeding so we are a breeding-happy kinda place lol. When I saw the Capranis Information page where it says: "Sometimes if breeds are bred together carefully enough, and consistency is achieved, a new breed is born," I got excited right away! ^_^

I am excited about the mutations, too! I must admit I love the hooves on CrystalAngelNeko's pretty girl, and I got super interested when I saw on the information page that "Kacia are more likely than other breeds to sport dainty fairy wings and antennae." I'm very happy users want to make goals and strive for them. I can't wait to show you guys how I do breeding, it is luck the draw with a little artistic license on how features play out.

As for the winged Kacia, well you'll probably see one sooner than you realize.

I would recommend people who want to make a new breed try more that two breeds. They need to be unique enough to be a new breed, not a mix between two preexisting breeds.

I'm going to tentatively say yes. It would be difficult, but I don't think impossible as Capranis have the capability to have all those traits, manes, bat wings, talons, ram horns(which is just a different type of horn style). But some mutations are harder to pass on than others.

I've been thinking of doing character mimics of these for when I trade with people, but the resulting Capranis would be infertile.

Sometimes I have something exactly in mind when I do these, sometimes I'll start and the idea will come from work already done, like with Renegade, the show name was chosen because of the pose sketched out. Sometimes I have no clue what they will end up as, like One Million Fireflies. For him I just bust out a few brushes and choose a color we needed more of.

They are all lovely! I really love all the different poses on all of these, and fluffy doggies, and that animal mimic! :D However I hadn't really planned on collecting full fantasy ones, mostly all naturals and possibly naturals with a touch of fantasy, so I may be looking to trade One Million Fireflies for another more natural male (my two others are girls, so it needs to be a male, preferbaly Inse) if anyone wants to offer :)

That is a very interesting offer~ But I think I would really like my Diriel fertile ^.^ So I'll just have to do a bit (or ALOT) of breeding =P Having a goal of making a whole new breed intrigues me on so many levels! I've already plotted a course of action too! I mean, for the difficult mutations I want, I'm not to sure what I will need to breed... but for the build I have in mind, I've got a few ideas!

Like I'm going to breed Mestere to Varhundt to get that bulk I want but still keep the mane... and then I'll need to breed in Kacia for their long slender tails and possibly a 'wing' gene. Even if its not the wings I want, it would be a start and we can work on mutations from there~ And I guess, I'll be watching the breeds for signs of ram like horns ^.^

So I haven't been as active with this as I'd like. I've just been really down lately. My passions aren't taking home in my art or writing, instead it's comfort food and sleeping. Posting the new animal guessing game seems like a huge chore in my mind. I'm just really out of sorts, emotionally and mentally which then became physically.
For the Capranis, here is what I have been planning. I'm probably going to cut the animal guessing game rounds down. I personally prefer games where I don't have to be too involved, like a raffle or grabbags. I've been considering getting help to run events. But nothing certain yet. Anyway, the Caprani for that game have already been made for like a week now. I'll probably do a few more rounds with them and then use the rest for mini events.
I also have a file with about a dozen Caprani for those mini events too. And then I have another file of Caprani with mutations, also for the mini events.
So I have a question: What kind of events would you like to see? I'm not very good at coming up with them.

Aw, Misplaced. *hugs* Everyone feels that way sometimes, ya know? I think it's especially hard for adoptables owners who do unique lines for all their adoptables. There's a lot of work that goes into drawing, inking, shading and coloring, and we don't get to see all your work, just the end result. It can lead to feeling overwhelmed. I think we've all been there.

It might help to have a set schedule, you know? Tell yourself, "Every Saturday between 10 and noon I'll work on drawing Caprani." Sometimes having a schedule written down, looking up at you from the paper, really helps the feeling of productivity as you get things done. ^_^ Especially when you have a list of things to do and you get to cross those things off as you get them done. That is a good feeling! lol.

I think once you get the pairs done for the kennels and start the shows/comps, you might get into the swing of things and feel better. I know people are really looking forward to a shop where we can interact and do regular events with our caprani. ^^ If you need help with the shows/comps, I would love to help out. I used to help run The Kennel dog comps when it was an active adoptable here. The results were all generated with dice rolls, so it wasn't that difficult to run once we got it going.

My favorite of the new lot is Mischief Maker! What a great play-bow pose...and that expression! lol.

Ryuu- Hmm, it's not that I'm overwhelmed by the work. It's a general feeling of being listless and unable to focus. It's related to other things. It is harder to get them done quicker when I have to individually draw them, but I would still feel the same way if they weren't. But I am feeling better now and more energetic.

New Kennel Pairs and one new mini event is open!
The ID system has been changed so it's easier for me to select files. Old IDs are still the same, unless you want it to change, then you can pm me. The genders have also changed to billy/nanny but you may refer to them as male/female, boy/girl, whatever. billydog and nannydog are still terms that can refer to the species as a whole.

Also! There will be breedings once I get done everything owed, that will be the time to claim your breedings if you get that as a prize. I will explain 100% part at that time.
Breedings will also be done differently than in the capranis info post in the notary office. Pup keeping policies will be changed. All this will be updated when the first breeding session comes.
Since these are more breeding objective than the marblings, I want to do them first since the marblings will take up some time with all their stages and complex shading. I'd like to get the second generation of caprani up so they can grow and show while I tend to my other adoptable. So, what I'm saying is, plan on at least two pairings.

Welcome back Misplaced! My heart leaps into my throat every time I see a Caprani thread bumped up, no joke!  ;D This is particularly a great surprise for me after a really terrible day I had. Makes it all worth it!

Singing My Blues is stunning. She may not hold a candle to some of the others in this bunch with all of those amazing multiple mutations showing, but her coloring and her awesome dynamic pose really makes her stand out to me (plus she's miiine hahaha). She looks like she's howling so mornfully, and her markings look like a giant tear splashed across her chest! I love it!

But heck yeah there were some real stunners in this group! Your art has improved even in the short time you've been on Secundi, I think! Congrats to Bun, I think my jaw literally dropped when I saw that Landrace with his wings spread! And whoot, Sculli! You and I have the only billy Eski's so far! *hi5's* We'll have to breed them when the season comes to get even more Eski out there!  :D

I think springacres wins for most awesome markings+mutations combo with her new Varhundt, and also sera's wins for the pure cuteness of a Dendi with fairy wings! ^_^

Thank you! It was actually pretty difficult for me to find the brush settings that I liked, it still need tweaking but I'm really glad you like it! It makes it easier and quicker to fill in the base layer also.
