Title: Coat color help?
Post by: skysnolimit on January 18, 2013, 12:40:28 PM
Mostly just curious for now, but what coat would this be and could it be seen on an adult horse as well?

Thanks in advance!

Looks like a chestnut leopard appaloosa, perhaps with flaxen? Blaze on the face and no leg markings that I can see.

I have to agree with what Ravv said.  And yes, unless the foal has the grey gene, it will show up on an adult horse as well.

I don't think she is a true leopard.

I have to disagree a bit.  You might see that pattern on a adult, but Appys continue to roan out over their lifetime.  If you poke around the site the picture came from, you'll see a few pictures of this same filly at a few days old.  Her color has already changed.
