I dont know where to get pets.

Stalk the generals forum to begin with.

Also, Go to the Secundi Agencies page, click the Wobbles link or/and the Gidgets link and you can adopt two free pets from these agencies.

Also, if you press the "search" button (not in the forums), you can search for pets that are for sale or up for bidding, but of course they might cost too much.

I found the gidgets but which do I choose do they have speical powers?

No they dont, theyre just for fun.

Pick your favorite one, name it, and choose its gender

No I'm pretty sure they don't have special powers... That would be cool though!
It's just based on looks.

If you go to the Generals, and go to the Spongequines last page you will find a free event i'm holding. ^^
