Horse Realism Help

Ok, so I said I want my Storm Chasers colored realistically (atleast for now, that may or may not change later).  But for now yes, realistic.

And I am trying to color some myself, so as not to leave everything to my colorists.. plus I just need to practice anyway..  So I have a few done, but some I am iffy about.  I'm not sure, now they are finished, if they truly look real or not.  I admit freely I don;t know squat about horse coats, patterns, genetics.  I know there are different types of paints and appies for instance, but to me a paint is a paint, and an appy is an appy, and The End.  And honestly, I wouldn't remember the differences if I tried to learn heh (and I've tried, I read Ravvies site several times now, I never remember anything!)

So ok, I could use some help if you don;t mind.  I'll post my "questionable's" here, and if you smart horsie peoples could help me out and tell me if they could conceivable be considered realistically colored.. I'd be grateful.

For now, here are the three I currently have and am "iffy" about..





The third one there, I was quite happy with when I made her.  And for some time after.  But the more and more I look at her, the more "iffy" I feel.

I'm not sure about the other two, but I would consider the second stallion as being a blue roan and his colouring is quite nice.

aww thank you quyllur !   I futzed with those stallies for over an hour,so that makes me happy They are for Secundi events, if they pass muster

The first stallion would be a wonderful Black-based Silver Dapple.  The second wouldn't work as Blue Roan, due to his light mane and tail.  He does resemble some young greys that I've seen though.

The pattern on the mare is wrong for Rabicano, too sharply angled and set too high.  The example in Indigo's link shows one at the extreme expression, and most of his white is low across the belly - they don't usually have much, if any up on the neck.

The appy looks nice - is she supposed to be bay or chestnut?  Bay would have black legs, but chestnut would not have black mane and tail >.>

I do a lot of research on horse colors, for several real life reasons, so if you ever get stuck, feel free to ask

Thanks Lectral!  So for the second stallion, he just needs a darker mane/tail.. darker brown, or more towards grey/black?  And I'll fiddle with the mare some more, try and get rid of some of the whiter area.  In the end I may just dleeteher though, the more I look at her the less I like her -.-

Oh I'm real glad of the appy!  I was concerned because I can;t remember ever seeing one with the blanket area extending down onto the legs.  As for bay/chestnut.. I didn;t relaly have either in mind honestly, I just slapped a base color up, so I could practice making appy blanket rofl  I shall add some black to her legs though

Thank you again!  hee I've got over 20 I think now in my pb I was pestering Indigo to check over for me before bed.  Gota couple in there I need to change as well.. *went overboard with the red a bit much* hehe

ok, fiddled with the Rabicano mare, does she look better now?

The first is a very nice silver dapple.

The second could be a blue roan if the mane/tail were black. As it is, I don't think that's realistic coloration.

I'm no rabicano expert, but the third certainly looks more realistic now than it did previously. I'd wait for someone else to confirm, though...

Thank you Ravvie   I'll darken the stallies mane/tail in a little while.  I'm getting caught up on intro's in PI, so I can try and get another event up and going here lol

I do appreciate the feedback everyone.  I'm very nervous trying to color these, and sadly, the quick popularity they have is only making me more nervous, as I am not used to it lol  I keep stressing and worrying I'll disapoint.

Ok I have spent the past three hours trying to color two mares..  My second appy.. which I like much better then the first.. except I meant to give her a darker mane/tail and forgot to do so before saving.. and now I just don't feel like opening the file to change it heh maybe later..

And a paint.. whom I am not pleased with.  I think she is pretty enough, but.. I had found a pic online and had been trying my hand at mimicing? I guess you'd call it.. And well, she doesn't exactly look like the horse form offline.  So yea, pretty, but not pleased.

Anyway, these two are destined for PI.  I just wanted to show the off and maybe get feedback on how I did.
