Even though it's been seven months, it's still hard for me to write this. :'(
When it first happened, I thought of coming here to Secundi to tell you all, because you've all been friends to me and you've known him through the adoptables here, but it was hard to even think about it my grief let alone articulate it. The night it happened, I couldn't even sleep in my own bedroom, I slept in the living room. Now it's been a while and I'm trying to come back to Secundi and see if there's interest in picking up events, so I thought now was time to let you all know, as well.
This February, my baby Kohaku passed away. He was 13 years old and he had had some health issues all his life. (I know you all remember me raising money for his vet bills at various times.) But he was my baby ever since he was a kitten and it was the hardest blow I've ever recovered from in my life so far. I miss him all the time. I know you all enjoyed seeing him around Secundi too, and I'm grateful he helped me make so many friends.
I wrote this for him when it happened:
"My Dearest"
My dearest child
I have nothing left
Inside,
Save guilt and doubt and sorrow.
The rest I have cried out
And wiped away.
My tired soldier,
You have walked
Such a long way
Carrying such a weight.
You have been brave

And I have seen both.

Decisions I never wanted.
And took too long to make.

When I carried your body home
I thought it would be lighter
With so much of you gone,

As anything has ever been.

While you climb the stars.
