Title: We need your help! [Lyvannaque]
Post by: Lyvannaque~ on January 27, 2014, 10:39:09 AM
I made the Lyvanna breeding item last night and a friend brought it to my attention that some people might be offended by it because of their Garden Noms/pets at home sharing too much resemblance. I apologize for any similarities beforehand but I want your input on how to avoid offense with this item since it is a dead bunny... >.>

Personally, I wouldn't be offended.  I love my Garden Noms, but those and this are two separate things.  I've also had real life rabbits as pets, but they were also a food source, so I have no problem with a dead bunny as a breeding item.

And if it helps any, it looks nothing like Garden Noms.  It actually makes me think of those flat rabbit and squirrel "toys" that hunters use to train their dogs with.

I don't think it's incredibly offensive or whatever, because there's no explicit detail or gore or anything like that. If you changed the eyes to a normal dot it would be a sleeping rabbit :P

My personal preference would probably not be a dead animal as I don't really see how it relates to breeding and prefer happy things over death things :P (I don't follow the adoptable because I lack time to follow new things, so sorry if I missed a reason for using this!), but I don't think there's anything wrong with using this image at all so I wouldn't worry :)

It's because I've seen wolves eating rabbits a lot, so the idea was one wolf brings it to the other as basically a request. I can change it to a closed eye, but I doubt I'll change it to a regular eye.

I don't find it offense, though I do find it a bit morbid.  If you were asking us to pick between a dead animal and some other something as the breeding item, I'd choose the some other something.  But I'm not going to boycott the adoptable over it or anything.  *shrugs*

I agree with Sil and YLO. It's not something that terribly offends me, and it's not something that would make me stop following the shop, but if I was given the choice I would definitely pick something else besides an image of a dead animal to use as an item for an adoptable shop. I don't want to look at dead bunnies all day if I am getting ready to breed my Lyvannaques. o.o

I really like the effort you put into being realistic for your shop so far, but I think there must be some other choices that could be made for something that one canine creature offers to another when they're ready to mate.

Maybe a flower that only blooms in the season they breed, like spring? Or something to do with moonlight because that inspires Lyvannaques to be more romantic? Maybe a glowbug because pairs of Lyvannaques like to stroll together in the dark when breeding season comes along? (Glowbugs remind me of the romantic scenes in Disney's Lady And The Tramp and Robin Hood! <3 )

Just a note, I can see the relation to dead animal for breeding, if you look at it like I have my SC's set up.  They require hay/straw bale to breed (that's the bedding of course) and you can get an oat bucket for a chance at an extra foal.  Because the oats (food) make the mare healthier/stronger/have more energy to have more babies.  That was the reasoning I used anyway.

For my sis's adopt lines, that were still waiting on, I believe we discussed and decided on a dead critter for the breeding item as well.  Similar thinking, and wolves regurgitate the meat for the pups once they hit a certain age (if I'm remembering right anyway, I may be mistaken here), so there is that.  And I'd much rather see a dead animal, then regurgitated dead animal.

And, also may be remembering wrong again, but when they have pups, doesn't some other wolf bring food back to the momma for a while afterwards?

At any rate, it still looks like a toy to me, so maybe you all could think of it as such?

Okay, so I've decided to make a new item for the breeding item and the bunny will be an item for like, a chance at an extra pup or something. Does that sound better?

Definitely not offensive to me! Although I'd thought your "reason" for using a dead animal would be similar to what I would've said: That mother wolves would need extra food to produce milk for their babies? *shrug* Lol but like I said it's not offensive to me because I was going to do something similar. ;)
