Cherubs – The Great Cherub Nation of Lesticiel'cherubim - Capital City Paradise
The Great Cherub Nation is the most metropolitan of the Grovekin, with many cities built up over their lands made of strong stone. Beautiful cathedrals are built in every town, in praise and worship to the Gods.
The High Lord Hierophant reigns supreme in Paradise, the great city in the center of the Cherub Nation. Its white tower reaches up into the clouds, a wonder of architecture and magic. The city in the shadow of the tower is a bustling metropolis of ingenuity and trade of the highest caliber.
Cherubs believe themselves to be the heroes of the world, mainly due to their amazing contributions in turning back The Tide. It is true that without the Cherubs aid the world probably would be a very different place.
This has led Cherubs to have an ingrained elitist attitude towards most of the other races. They believe themselves to be the chosen of the gods and expect to be treated accordingly. Though there are some Cherubs who believe that their connection to the gods should be used in order to help lift up the other races, most just use it to feel superior.
Things to note: Brownie Cherubs are DIRT in Paradise. They are servants and slaves, products of Cherubs who have lost their faith in the gods, and so the gods punished them and stripped their wings.
Hybrids born of a Cherub parent are ABOMINATIONS. If discovered they will be killed and the parent severely punished.
Exceptions have been made in times of war, or in the exceptional child. Hybrids can be more powerful than their singular parent races and in these cases they can be useful. Historically there are many battles where Hybrids have led the charge and broken the Tide (but usually to great losses)
(This is a secret don't tell you know who I told you: There is currently the brewing of a possible civil war inside Paradise. The Hierophant, though powerful and supported by the upper class of Cherubs, is not well loved by the people, particularly the Brownies and the Hybrids, who are "The Unfaithful" and "The Unclean" respectively. However a small parish priest, through his many kind words and deeds, has gained a great following among the people, and many are pushing for him to become the next Hierophant to hopefully usher in an age of benevolence and peace for all)
Imps – The World's Gate Mountains - Capital City Babylon
Imps are the proud and deadly guardians of the World's Gate, a chain of mountains that stretch across the East. On one side of the mountains are the Untamed Lands and The Great Cherub Nation, fertile farming grounds and game and life. The imps have tried on a number of occasions to conquer and enslave the Untamed Lands, but they have yet to succeed. On the other, the Ice Wastes, a land of plague and winter and death.
The Ice Wastes were once the great Imp nation. The lands were fertile and rich, and it was always warm (as Imps do so love warm climates) The mighty mountains protected them from their enemies and gave them the opportunity to delve into the arcane arts uninterrupted. This had been how the lands were divied up after the Unending War, the many centuries war against the Cherubs.
They lived in peace and their great city Tartarus rose out of the land like a great black hand. But it was not to last. The arcane magic they toyed with awoke something deep in the darkness of the land. And THEY came, like the plague of locusts, unthinking and unyielding, to devour all. The imps fought them off, but as they came so did the cold, and the plagues, and the sweeping death. They retreated into the mountains where the warmth of the world could not be quenched.
It took a combined effort from all of the races to turn back the Tide (as they called it) but the Imps paid the greatest price. They lost their home land. And as they had to call in aid, none of the other races were inclined to give them a cozy spot (certainly not those damndable Cherubs) So they were relegated to the mountains that had given them shelter.
They built a new city, Babylon, down deep in the depths, where the warmth of the world could give their wings lift and the anger in their hearts burning hot.
Babylon is run on a stratocracy. Martial law reigns supreme and there is nothing more honorable than serving the nation to fight back the Tide to retake the homeland. The General is the most fear and loved of all imps, due to not only his brute strength but his ruthless cunning on the battlefield.
Fairy - Tir na nOgg - Capital City Avalon
The island of Tir na nOgg is protected by a thick veil of mists. Though the island is not far off the shore from the Living Wood, many a sailor has gotten lost in the mists and never found their way to her beautiful green shores.
Tir na nOgg is the land of the Fairies. The Fairies happily took this little island after the Unending War for 1 very important reason. They wanted FAR FAR AWAY from all of the Cherub/Imp drama. It isn't that they don't LIKE their winged brethren...it's that Fairies do not like war and strife and anger and the Cherubs are far too huffy and the imps hold a grudge and it's all just so very dull. So they made themselves their own little world far away from it all.
The waters to the island are still as glass, more like a lake than the ocean. Once the mist breaks ahead is a most beautiful sight. The island is forested, tall trees leading straight up from the shore and filling you with a feeling of ancient magics. Up on the tallest hill is a palace made of white stone with beautiful royal purple parapets tipped in gold. This is Avalon.
"The Oberon" and "The Titania" rule from Avalon. These terms are titles, not names as many actually believe (one reason some think fairies have the longest lifespans of all kin-kind, as to some Oberon and Titania have now been alive for eons) Though the castle is made of beautiful stone, many fairies live in homes built in the branches of the glorious trees that surround the castle, though some brownie do prefer more cottage like housing. The island itself is not large enough to afford for many large cities, so communities and villages are most common, though it never takes long to go visit a neighbor!
There are a smattering of nobles who give council to Oberon and Titania, and they also have many different titles people have mistaken for names (or positions that were named for heroes who held those positions) and nobles will often have small bands of knights in their employment. Knights who serve under a noble do so in very small groups, and it is not uncommon for these people to grow fiercely loyal to each other.
--Brownies – Lesticiel'cherubim/World's Gate/ Tir na nOgg
Brownies are just lesser forms of these previous 3 types of Grovekin. Brownies of all 3 races have banded together into their own racial community because as non fliers they aren't treated with the same kind of respect as the flying races.
Brownies are often found in menial jobs, the military, or in the arts attempting to work their way up in the world. Militaristic achievements or exemplary talent can raise a Brownie up from their low standing to similar levels of their winged counterparts. As such, many heroes of the ages or great artists come from these humble beginnings. In some tomes you will even find that history has turned them into the greater aspects to try and claim them, but the Brownies keep excellent records of their kind to ensure that they are given the credit that their heroes deserve.
Centaur – The Untamed Lands - Neutral City: Bazaar
The wide open plains of the Untamed Lands are home to the nomadic centaur tribes. The tribes are linked for a single purpose, to keep the other races from taking over their lands. Otherwise they have very few ties, or allies within their own nation. Each tribe has a warlord. None of these leaders get along with the others, all claiming to be strongest, and deserving of the true title of Prince (never King, for one can never have absolute power over the wild nature of the Centaurs) This title is only put into play during times of war, when the tribes MUST unite under a common banner. The contest for this position is fierce, and some may say wasteful as many of the strongest and fiercest of the tribes, the warlords, will die during the contests for supreme power.
Still when united they are a force to be reckoned with, and why the Untamed Lands have never been taken by "more civilized" societies.
**Bazaar- (One of 2 Neutral Cities)
There is 1 "city" in the Untamed Lands. It is always moving, ever changing in its location through the plains, yet somehow the tribes always know where it is. The Bazaar is a place for commerce and trade between the tribes. It is neutral ground and fighting within its bounds is an offense punishable by swift execution. Here other races may also be found selling goods and wares, but they are treated with a cold respect and little more.
You can find ANYTHING in the Bazaar. The blackmarket runs rampant here, offering all kinds of illegal goods, drugs, slaves, and precious stones.
Siren – The Oceans - Capital City Trilantia
The living coral city of Trilantia rose up in the warm waters of the southern sea. It is the capital city for the Sirens. Contrary to popular belief, Sirens are some of the most warm and welcoming of the grovekin races, mainly due to their long standing history of trade amongst the other races. Granted much of these products are "obtained" through the wreckage of unfortunate ships and then sold back. But who's counting?
Being a living city, Trilantia is always changing and growing. Its buildings are sculpted directly into the coral. The coral IS life, and thus treated as nearly a god. In many cases large chunks of limestone, or boulders can be used as payment over gold to the sirens, as they always strive to keep the city living, expanding, thriving. Not all sirens live in the colorful great city, but all respect the coral.
Trilantia has 3 main districts. The first is the Palace. Reserved for the royal family and the wealthiest of the aristocracy, the palace is the center of the reef city. It is the oldest part of the reef, having started ages ago as a tri pillar. These three pillars were then sculpted into a castle as ornate as any on land and 10 times more colorful. The royals live in the lower chambers, and the wealthier or more important you are the closer to them you are, with the servants living in the uppermost towers. Unlike the "Above" where living at the top is most wanted, under the sea it is precisely the opposite, as the reef is less likely to be damaged near its heart. One of the most prized artifacts is known as "The Heart of the Sea" which is the staff of the king, made from a broken off piece of coral from the very heart of the reef, which embraces at its tip, a large blue pearl.
The second district is indeed split into 2 lesser districts. The Eastern Outskirts, and the Western Outskirts. These districts were formed (and indeed the Eastern Outskirts are still forming as the living city grows) as the living coral expanded and more merchants and middle class came to live in the capital. The Western outskirts trend more towards trade and mercantilism, and boasts a thriving middle class. The Western outskirts back into the Threshold, and are thus the closest to the "Above." However, having hit the islands it caused the Western Outskirts growth to cease.
The Eastern outskirts are not as fortunate. This is where many a dreaming siren begin, and end. It continues to grow out into the vast wide sea, a frontier of danger. It is hard to work your way up from the Eastern outskirts to the Western.
The last district is known as the Threshold, called thus because it is the gateway into the land dwellers world. Trilantia developed near a series of underwater caves and caverns. This is where air breathing visitors to the city will stay as the magic to have them breathe underwater is not generally terribly long lasting.
Puka – Puka Islands - Main Island Makataliali
Puka are mischevious and fun loving grovekin. They hail from a chain of islands in the south sea (though pukas can usually be found in most cities, as they are adventurous and explorers by nature. They tend to get along with everyone, even if some do get annoyed by their constant high spirits and complete inability to be truthful ever about anything)
Though more tribal in nature, like the Centaur, they do not live the nomadic lives of the centaurs, instead living in villages in the treetops. Pukas are far too jovial to concern themselves about war or power. They just aren't an organized people, and rules and cities and things like that seem far too constraining.
Pukas have particularly good relations with the Sirens (as Trilantia's Threshold district backs into their islands) and they have traded together for ages. Pukas like shiny things, and Sirens have a taste for the tropical fruits that the pukas often turn into jams and such. That is why despite the fact that they are not a metropolis Pukas tend to have enormous individual wealth (that they trade and barter with each other without any knowledge of because they like shinies. When in major cities Pukas tend to look for their city cousins who are more versed in actual value to the other Grovekin races, even if it doesn't make much sense to them) There have been many a Cherub or Imp or Naga who have come to the Islands to be horrified that sapphires were being used as pretty light catchers in their homes, and colorful shells were prized as currency.
The main island of Makataliali (pronounced Mah kah tah lee ah lee) is where Pukas gather for big chieftan meetings. The Grand Poobah can call these meetings, which are usually just giant parties.
Naga – Quiyolitiz (Commonly referred to as the Yoli Jungle) – Capital City Nochehuatl, the City of Gold
Amidst the steamy jungle of the southern lands rises a city, made of gold. Naga are attracted to gold, wealth, power, and as a testament to the ever constant Naga strength from the wilds of the jungle arose Nochehuatl.
The Naga used to have a royal family who lived in the golden palace (think Aztec-y tiered temple) until the nobles, having grown tired of the rule and wanting more power for themselves, overthrew the family and took over. A society run by its upper class isn't always the most functional, what with the squabbling like siblings over who gets the last piece of pie, but when push comes to shove they all love being at the top, which is what keeps them from any kind of wars for sole dominance.
Nagas HATE outsiders, mainly because they are usually after the nagas treasure. Nagas HORDE their gold and tend to be very cheap. They do not like parting with it.
The naga are a fiercely matriarchal society, putting far more stock in their women and the strength they possess.
Dryad – The Living Wood - Capital City The Grove
Dryads are the most rare of grovekin and many of the other races believe them to be extinct, or a myth. Though what they do know is that entering the Living Wood is a great risk, for despite its benign appearance many people enter those woods, and never return.
A Dryad is the fairy soul of a tree, flower, or any plant really. Their bodies physically shift between forms. Most Dryads are nocturnal, choosing to be in their tree form during the day when the woods get the most travel, and coming out to dance under the moon and starlight at night. Dryads can be in their human form for up to 7 days before needing rest, however they will have to rest in their tree form for an equal amount of time. (Up for 8 hours, rest for 8 hours, up for 7 days, rest for 7 days) Dryads in their human form never need food or rest (as they absorb everything they need while in their resting/tree state) but the will enjoy food and drink should they wish to have it.
Dryads can also astral project their human form anywhere within the Living Wood. This is extremely draining for them and so they must rest for twice the amount of time after using this ability. (Astral project for 2 hours, need to sleep for 4 hours, you get the idea)
The only exception to this rule is if they have projected into The Grove, the capital city of the Dryads. Dryads can project indefinitely into the city as its magic sustains their connection.
Dryads are spiritually connected to THEIR tree. It is their body, the home for their soul. Should anything happen to their tree it will happen to the dryad soul. Again, the exception to this rule is if the Dryad soul is IN The Grove when this occurs. The magic here will sustain them indefinitely, but they become a Lost One, a soul with no tree, no body, and are forever trapped within the Grove. Should they ever choose to leave their soul will have no body to return to and dissipates back into nature.
Saving a Lost One: A Lost One's tree CAN indeed be restored, under very specific conditions. Firstly; a piece of their tree must remain. Anything from a sprig to a staff carved from the very heart of the tree. It must be replanted in the exact spot of its destruction. There is a ritual, supremely guarded by the Dryad people. Life must be restored, (many scholars believe this to mean that blood must be split upon the newly planted "tree"). Then you have to wait and see if it takes root. If it roots and grows than the dryad soul can indeed be reborn.
The Grove
The Dryad capital is "The Grove". It is not a city, as most would define a city, and truly one cannot enter The Grove without a dryad who takes them there. There is no stumbling upon it, no magical spell that will let you in. Only a dryad may bring you with them as their soul travels through the roots and limbs of the Living Wood to the gathering place. Due to its Spiritual nature, the Grove is more of a dreamscape.

I was talking to rose, and I realized, there was a race that is desperately needed in the GroveKin x3 and that would be Dryads!
Name: (I still need to find one that strikes me best, I'll edit it in when I do)

Race: Fairy
Species: Cabbage Butterfly
Body: "Swordsmans" build, medium broad shoulders, slender at the hips. Elegant.
Wing Color/Pattern: Pale minty and yellowy greens, creams, whites, with black patterns

Makeup: Two "Yokai markings" or dots above eyes. Other Aspects: Large butterfly/moth wings folded behind him, pointed ears. Going for a very Inu-Yasha style Yokai look, exotic
Accessories: Perhaps a tassled hand fan tucked into the belt of his Obi, a samurai sword with tanto. Shinto style monks bead necklaces and bracelets with tassles. Tassled earrings. Shinto bells incorperated in the outfit somewhere?
Outfit: Some kind of combination of these costumes leaning more towards the kimono-style base, but with an obi that has tassles and other ornamentation, going for a very elaborate "Flowery" look, long kimono sleeves, going for a kind of "Fantasy samurai" look. Should have pale greens with slightly darker greens, with whites and creams. Pale colors dominate, darker colors can be used for detail. Some kind of japanese sandal for shoes.

Lol it isn't really a system, its just a way to limit some of the ridiculous shiny shininess magical settings can inspire in players. Just a way to give people an idea of how good their character is at certain things so if you and Bun's character get into a sword fight you won't need admin mediation to figure out who wins or loses (should it get contentious)
