Title: Separating competitors by agency?
Post by: springacres on April 10, 2011, 09:02:04 PM
I keep getting server timeouts when trying to sign up all my competitors for competitions at once.  And doing it in batches gets old rather quickly.  I was wondering if it were possible to set up competition entries so that on the mass signup screen, you would only be able to sign up pets from one agency at a time?

I would love this.

hmm I've been wishing there was a way to assign a comp type to each pet, then when you go to en masse sign up and pick say, Wit, that only the pets you assigned to wit would show up.  You could always change the comp type assignment later if you changed yer mind.  The exception would be totality, where they would/should all show up for that one.

But if I understand you right, that wouldn't solve the problem of your having to enter pets in batches.  I had (and still have) those errors as well.  But I'm not sure any more that it stems form the amount of entrants, because I get the errors on certain comp types, regardless of how many pets I am entering.  I tried splitting it in batches, and even entering very small amounts of pets at a time, it doesn't seem to help.  I'm curious which comps you get the errors for, it's always might/will for me.  (one of the two, I can;lt remember atm, I;d have to hunt up my records to double check).

I love Kadana's idea about assigning a comp type.

However, being able to do only one agency at a time would slow the signing up process down considerably. I never get server timeouts when trying to sign up competitors, so suddenly having to only sign up one agency at a time would get annoying really fast.

I did some maintenance of the database which should hopefully help, and I've added a separate signup page that allows you to sign up by agency, which you may choose to use if you prefer.
