The "new" forums is freaking Sculli out a bit.

I know Im old and I'm unused to change....but its taken me back a smidge.   
Don't hate it, just not used to it yet.

Your thoughts? Feelings? ...or am I alone in my weirdness?

Sorry, I randomly decided to go ahead and upgrade to the latest version of the forum.  Past upgrades haven't been nearly as extensive, I doubt any of you ever noticed when I did an upgrade before.  This one really messed with a lot of parts of Secundi.  I'm going through and patching up the broken bits now.  We may really have to go with a new forum layout, looks like this old one doesn't like the new forum very much.

The reply section bugs me and the lacks of boxes around the reply and other buttons when viewing a topic. And if we aren't using child board it'd be neat to disable them because they just take up space XD But usually upgrades do things we don't see as well, like speeding up the forum, so yay!

Also, the new emoticons made me go Whut? O.o

Edit: Eeek and then it changed again XD I am scaaaared x3

Ok, I've put up a new theme that I've made the forum default.  Mostly it works well.  There's a few kinks left to work out with it, but it's super late here and I really need to get to bed, so I'm going to continue work on those tomorrow.  Thanks everyone for your patience!

ETA:  The original Secundi theme is still there in the Themes list if you prefer to go back to it.

And for those wondering why I decided to do this in the first place, the forum database blew up making the forum not work, and after researching it I realized that to fix it/prevent it from happening again, we really needed to upgrade the forum from the old 1.0 to the new 2.0 version (they're not even supporting 1.0 anymore).

This will definitely take some getting used to! lol Not necessarily a bad thing.

The only issue I have now is that it is reeeeaally difficult for me to tell which topics have new replies to them. I like the front page of the forum where there's a blue diamond that lights up if there's new threads inside that forum. But when I go to Generals or any place, I'm used to looking for the lit up icon in there and instead there's a little icon that says 'new!' at the end of each subject line for each topic. Not as eye-catchy as our previous set up.

I agree with YLO it would be good to get rid of the Child Board thing at the top of the screen, as it is distracting.

However I used to click on a USR's name from the forum, which would take me to their profile, and then when I clicked on their name there I could see their pet pages. I can't do this any more, when I click on their name I just get a mini profile x3;
I know there's a way of copying into the address bar, but I liked it better the other way, but I suppose I could get used to something else C:

Actually I think making use of child boards for organization would be awesome =D Particularly in the Market area. For instance having the main boards be for the Agencies, and child boards for the currently non-agencies. It would probably help newbies understand how this forum work a little better to separate like that :3 (or possibly have a child board for every agency and let the main forum be for non-agencies).

Hover your mouse over profile, till it drops down a menu. You should see an option that says Account Settings. Click it. Then it will show a screen where you have your home, help, search, etc with a line, this under neath: www.secundi.net » Profile of (User) » Account Related Settings

And then under that, you see Profile Info, Modify Profile, and Actions. Hover over Modify Profile. It should drop down a list, and the option you want is Look and Layout Preferences. Once you're there, look for where it says

Current Theme: Bean (change)

Once you click on the change button, you get to pick the style the forum is laid out in.

Ok, I ~think~ I've got everything back in working order on the Secundi main site.  I've also made a few other changes to the new "Bean" template to make it look more like the one we used to have - it now has a fixed width like the old one, and I changed the sub-boards so the only thing going on along the sides of each post is an icon for whether the topic has new replies or not.  I also fixed the "Quick Reply" box so it shouldn't be stretching out across the whole screen anymore.

If you notice any more bugs on Secundi main, or have a major complaint/suggestion concerning the new Bean theme, please let me know.  I will do my best to fix bugs and address concerns with them.

I will leave the old Secundi theme there as an option for people to use, but please note that it wasn't made for this version of the forum and there are things that are just simply going to be buggy with it, and I either can't fix them or I don't want to put in the massive hours it would take to address them.

The only complaint I have is that when I post an adoptable with a white background you can tell that it's not transparent. XD But that's just me needing to adjust to the new stuff.
I'll figure out how to make stuff transparent in this art program. Haha.

I agree with what has already been said about the new post alerts... Visually I'm having a harder time picking out new posts without the blue markers. Is that an aesthetic that can be changed or is it required of the new format?

Ravvana - I made the change a couple hours ago to the "new post alerts" using the blue gems.  You may need to refresh or possibly even clear out your cache to see the change, but it's there.

ETA:  Right now I've made it so that new posts show up with the blue gem, and threads with no new posts have a light grey gem.  I could just take the light grey gem out, so a gem only appears if there's new posts, and the field is blank if there's nothing new.  What do you guys prefer?

Ahh thank you Silv!  Those changes will make it easier for me to get used to the new boards.  I shall begin trying to acclimate (sp?) now.  It does feel a lot more like "home" now then it did when I initially awoke to the change.

As for the gems, I like the grey/blue gems, but I don't think I would mind one way or the other if the grey ones were removed.  Right now, they seem no different then the way the old Arrow icons used to work.  Light tan if no new posts, and darker brown if there are new posts.

Anyway, whatever is decided for those is fine.  I'm just happy right now, I feel much less panicy then I did this morning lol

The more I play around on this, the more I like it. It seems bigger, and easier on my old eyes to see. With or without the diamonds. Though I like the unread diamonds.

Hadn't even noticed that Rav, it's not just yours.  The clock is now reading 2 hours behind my time, and it used to be only 1 hour behind.

I do have a small bug/complaint. When you switched back to diamonds, now there's nothing to click to go directly to the new posts (since the diamond isn't clickable). The old diamonds and the "new" button both did that. I miss it :<

Soli, a somewhat solution to that one is to set your profile settings to put newest replies on top.  I usually switch to that setting when participating in speed based events, then switch back to the normal setting after.

That's not quite the solution. Sure it'll show the most recent replies first, but it won't take me to the newest post since I last read the thread, which I find incredibly useful when I'm following threads >>

I know Soli, that's why I said a somewhat solution.  It should at least make it a wee bit easier/faster to locate where you left off.  Unless the thread blew up since you were last on anyway :S

There's a button on the right side right under the name of the person who last posted that takes you to the end of the thread. Still not the perfect solution, but it's better than having to scroll through the thread every time

Haha, I hadn't actually realized the forum had that functionality, Solistia.  Learn something every day.  I'll see what I can do about restoring it.

Edit:  There we go, that function is back again.  I'd grabbed the image but not the link around it, before, because I hadn't realized the link was anything more than just to the thread itself.  Link is back now, and it really does take you to the new posts in the thread.  Good to know.
