It's a warm, sunny day today, and you have to squint against the glare of the sun as it pounds down on the shopping district of Silverbrooke. Pushing your sunglasses closer to your nose, you look this way and that, watching for cars before crossing the street towards a little shop that stands adjacent to the cross walk. It's a small, squat building made from red brick, but the bright, round bubbles painted on the display window seem cool and inviting, and the blue awning offers protection from the sun. Before you step into the shade, you look and notice the word '!Blub!' had been stitched into the blue fabric in swirly, silver letters.
A small bell tinkles as you open up the door and step inside. Pulling you sunglasses down, you take in the rows upon rows of gurgling fish tanks. A mural of the beach rises up from behind the counter, where stands a tall woman with auburn hair that floats down to her hips. Her horn rimmed glasses have been pulled up across her bangs, revealing her sharp, blue-gray eyes and even sharper ears. At the sound of the bell, she lifts her head and smiles at you. "Good afternoon!" she calls to you, pushing her glasses back onto her nose. "Can I help you with anything?"
The elf woman brushes her long fingers off on the crisp, white apron that's been tied over her dress. Sitting by her elbow is a fish bowl that houses a brightly colored betta fish, whose tail flashes red and violet as it darts near the surface of his bowl, nibbling at flecks of food. Maybe she had been feeding him before you arrived?
You fold up your sunglasses and put them in your back pocket. "I was just window shopping when I saw your shop... So, this is a pet store?" "Well, you could say that," the elf replies. "We actually just specialize in selling fish, here. I'm Charity, by the way." She steps over to you and offers her hand, which you take and mumble something in reply. "And I genetically engineered these fish all by myself. Though they all make lovely pets, you can actually get all sorts of colors and traits out of them, if you breed them in just the right way."
Something close to a smile folds into the corner of your mouth, since you actually find yourself a bit interested. "Oh, really?" Charity nods, her grin widening. "Sure! Here, why don't I show you around..." and she proceeds by leading you around the shop. As she takes you between the many tanks, showing you the different species of fish, you notice a door labeled 'lab'. "Is that were you breed the fish?" you ask, craining your neck. "It sure is! But the lab is strictly off limit for the public, so I can't take you in there." she replies with an apologetic smile before pointing to one of the tanks and continuing where she'd left off. When your tour ends she gives you several pamflets that contains detailed info on all the things she had been telling you about. You fold them up and put them away into one of your pockets before saying goodbye to the woman and making your way out the door. "It was nice meeting you, I hope to see you back soon." she calls after you cheerfully.
About !Blub!
Welcome to !Blub! a genetic fish adoptable where you can collect and breed fish of many different varities.
You can find anything you need to know right here, neatly organized into different subjects!
Although !Blub! is a genetic adoptable, you are not required to deal with the genetics if you don't want to. You are free to participate in any events and breeding any male with a female fish will get you eggs, so if you just want to collect and hoard pretty pets feel free to do just that!
!Blub! is drawn by Willow and run by YourLoveOnly.
Genetics
Each !Blub! fish comes with a genetic string. Each string has seven sections, divided into three rows.
This image shows what a string looks like while explaining the terminology:

While the scientists can figure out the genetic string of each !Blub! by examining their DNA it does not tell them what they mean, it is up to the users to figure that out! The only thing the scientists could tell is that first generation !Blub! never have any 2s present in the middle row.
Species
Currently there are four species known to us, but more can be discovered through careful breeding programs.
We took pictures of each of them so you can see what they each look like!

Obtaining
!Blub! are handed out through various events and non-owners can also participate in breeding by borrowing !Blub! from other users. But what if there is no event going on? Or if you want something a bit more customized? Or what if you simply must have an army of !Blub! right this instant, what do you do then, I hear you ask? Well if that's the case you can come to the lab and purchase more fish!
You can get a completely random !Blub! or let us search for a more specific one where you get to determine a certain amount of genes. Of course this last option is more difficult thus gets more expensive the more demands you have. The lab accepts muny, SG and USD as payment.
For those on AAA with a $1 USD = 100 muny exchange rate, you may use a combination of both if you prefer. For secundi users combined payment will not be possible because there is no set exchange rate. The reason for different types (random/specified genes/breeding) having different SG to muny/USD exchange rate is to keep new fish affordable for newer Secundi users but the highly customizable levels not too easily obtainable for the older players as they are meant to be rather rare.
To get !Blub! directly from the lab, send a PM to YourLoveOnly with your order and payment method.
Options & Pricing
For any single !Blub! directly purchased from the lab you may pick its gender for free.
For an additional charge of $0.50/50 muny/5,000 sg the species will be your choice, otherwise its randomly determined which one you get.
~ Random ~
$1/100 muny/10,000 SG ~ one random !Blub!
$2.50/250 muny/25,000 ~ one random male and two random female !Blub! (same species)
~ Specified Genes ~
The scientists will not be able to find a !Blub! with more than 25 of the 43 genes specified.
Remember these are first generation !Blub! so you cannot pick any 2s for the middle row.
$2.00/200 muny/20,000 sg ~ pick 1-5 genes
$3.50/350 muny/75,000 sg ~ pick 6-10 genes
$5.00/500 muny/150,000 sg ~ pick 11-15 genes
$6.50/650 muny/250,000 sg ~ pick 16-20 genes
$8.00/800 muny/400,000 sg ~ pick 21-25 genes
Genes not determined by you will be randomly selected.
Discount: 25% off when ordering a male and female with the same specified genes, so you only pay 1.5x the above price for two fish (they will be the same species and the other genes are still randomly determined for each seperate fish so they won't be exactly the same)
~ Breeding ~ must use your own fish for these breedings!
$5.00/500 muny/200,000 sg ~ one male x female breeding outside of a breeding event
$20.00/2000 muny/1,000,000 sg ~ one male x female breeding outside of a breeding event where you'll be allowed to manipulate the resulting genetic strings for all 3 eggs! (must be compatible with the parents' genetics, so if mom has a 0 gene and dad a 1 gene you can pick a 0 or a 1 but not a 2)
Note: when buying breedings out of events you /will/ be allowed to keep two eggs for yourself instead of one AND gift away the leftover egg to a person of your choice (if you don't want to do this I can rehome it for you).
Breeding
All !Blub! must be kept in seperate tanks or in same gender groups, they will only tolerate the opposite gender during mating which must happen in special breeding tanks.
Breeding happens in big events where you pay for the use of a breeding tank.
You can breed any adult male x female fish together and the female will then lay a number of eggs, usually 3. Females can breed once per spawning season, males can breed up to three times.
The lab has different types of tanks: one for each known species (currently Betta, Angelfish, Goby and Triggerfish) and one for crossbreeding. A user can reserve a tank of each type, so you can get a maximum of five breedings per event. There are enough tanks to cover all the people, so everyone who applies before the deadline is guaranteed to get their breeding(s). The outcome of each breeding is fully determined by the genetics, so if you figure them out you can possibly predict the results!
One egg can be claimed by each person involved in the breeding (the one submitting the breeding and the owners of the male and female if you borrowed !Blub! from other people), any leftover eggs will become property of the lab to be used in events.
Eggs hatch into babies after 5~7 days, babies become adults after 7~10 days, so the entire growth process takes about two weeks. Markings do not show up until a !Blub! reaches adulthood. If you're the first to breed a specific marking, you get to name it!
Hybrids
For those serious breeders who dedicate their time to creating a certain pedigree it is possible to get hybrids!
Here is what a hybrid's pedigree should look like:
The ?? represents the actual offspring/possible hybrid, the 1s and 2s the required lineage/pedigree. As shown only the previous 3 generations in the pedigree matter, anything older isn't relevant.
All 1s represents one species of fish, all 2s represent another. So to get a hybrid the last 3 generations have to have one parent of each species. Once the lineage of any breeding matches the above table you have a chance of that breeding producing a hybrid. The first time you try there's a 20% chance of producing a hybrid, the second time it's a 50% chance, the third time it's a 80% chance. It stays at 80% until you succeed. No matter how few or how many tries it takes, as soon as you produce a succesful hybrid the odds go back to 20% and the counting starts again.
Only one set of hybrid lines will be created per species combo. So for example, once someone succesfully breeds an Angelfish x Goby hybrid those new hybrid lines will be used for all succesful Angelfish x Goby hybrids, you won't get new lines everytime. The first person to succesfully breed a new hybrid may name it. From that moment on it can function as any of the other species, meaning you can breed hybrids from them as well (if you meet the pedigree requirements of course). The possibilities are endless!
